Both clubs have requested that people use their own onboard facilities which seems by far the best way to avoid the spread of infection.

We'll see if this is included in the guidance being published later today?

I genuinely can't understand firstly the desire to rush to a site on 4th July, and secondly the desire to use a facility block. The hassle of using the shower safely just seems to far outweigh the potential pleasure of doing so.

To have a shower safely... Wash hands and leave van. Hope main door to facility block is open, walk into shower cubicle, lock door and gel hands. ( who knows how clean the sliding lock will be?). Do l put my bag down on the bench thereby potentially contaminating the bottom of it or do I hang it up on a hook which might have had contaminated bags, clothes and towels hanging on it, so the back of the door may also be contaminated. Get undressed making sure non of my clothes touch anything. Put them in my bag. Get out shower gel, open shower curtain with one hand which is now contaminated so need again to gel hand again. Use shower which could be contaminated on any surface to say nothing of airborne droplets being present. At this point l'm neither showered or dry, but l do have a potentially contaminated bag which needs cleaning. The chances of getting dry and dressed without anything touching any shared surface are nil unless you have the balance of a gymnast, so yet more gelling of hands. What a hassle - are members really going to do all this just to have a shower or are they going to carry on as if Covid doesn't exist or won't affect them?

That's a bit personal JVB, there are all sorts of reasons why some need or prefer facilities.

In FAQs they now say they intend to open on 4July in England, 15th in Scotland. The Govt has also said 4 July so it looks as certain as it can be given the circumstances.

Have you thought of sending these instructions for showering to the club. They could then give a copy to each visitor on arriving at site.

Surely people can go a few days without having a shower. I haven't had one for the past 6 months.

so who's going to police that one and run in and out of the block checking each time somebody's been in?

Jill, I have seen this on a few occasions abroad. I can't exactly remember which country, but the routine the lady used did make me smile and I was able to watch whilst queuing:

Occupant of WC leaves, cleaner rushes in to check before allowing next person to enter. Sometimes the cleaner rushed out the first time, picked up  the deodorant spray and re-entered. What I could never understand is why she just didn't carry the spray all the time 'just in case'

    I have a solution...

Every pitch is allocated a 15 time slot for shower use.  In the 5 minutes before the slot, get ready in your van, strip off, put on your Crocs (other brands are available), sling a towel over your shoulder and run for it.

Meanwhile, all other pitch occupants have to close their eyes, and get ready for their sprint to the showers

    1. Could be fun...or not surprised

Seems logical to me , could also have side bets on time in shower ,how long to run to van .

So are you back to you original views then Rufs? Because I thought in the post-Cummings era you appeared entirely relaxed about crowds, in fact you pointed out that despite them there had been no "second spike" - I believe you were even happy to hold a family BBQ in advance of the first easing of the lockdown.

So what makes you think the new easing is any more dangerous? undecided

I dont, I am of the opinion that we need crack on with our lives, hoping that we will get a vacine asap, but the tone of this post seemed to be geared to the more senior citizens of our club, so i thought an interjection as to what might be the real world on the 4th of July would not go amiss laughingbut as i have said i will be giving UK sites a miss for a couple of months at least, quite content to stroll/cycle/swim in the quieter areas of our region

But of course adhering to all that has been said today at the briefing e.g. continue washing hands, wear face masks where appropiate, sit back to back , or side by side, if space is tight try not to linger and many more which are all sensible and all doable.

Disposable gloves don't address the problem of the cubicle walls being contaminated or the curtain or all those droplets of water transmitting the virus.. Even if your bag is waterproof it could still be contaminated and will need disinfecting back at the van. Where are you going to put your disposable gloves? On the floor to potentially contaminate the floor for the next person?  Not many wipes actually kill the virus so they wouldn't be much help.

Much as l like the idea of a 'strip and run for it' senario there is still the problem of where to put your towel.....

Facilities block not for me any time soon.
