Hi all

We are due to head down to Ferry Meadows in Peterborough in a few weeks and are planning on going across the A66 and then down the M1. We were looking at breaking the journey at Barnard Castle Club site but it is quite expensive for a one night stay. Could anyone recommend a CL in that area preferably just off the M1 if possible and with easy access as we have quite a large van.

Many Thanks

Yes, we know of somewhere nice. (I think you actually mean the A66/A1 though, which takes you South down to Peterborough staying on the A1?) I will look it up and post a link. It’s a small CL with three separate pitching areas, just off A1 near Catterick.

Nice site, we only had the one night, arriving very late, owners are very accommodating. Easy access on and off A1 close to Scotch Corner. We used a Hardstandings area just outside lovely walled garden. I think it had a loo as well.

Another cracking CL we have used on numerous occasions is Scar Close, just outside Richmond. This has three pitching areas, one all grass, two others are HS and perfect for one night. Again, very nice owners.

I think you mean the A1 not M1

We used this cl on the way to Scotland. It's at Bedale just about 15 mins south of Scotch Corner. It's easy to find and enter. Ideal for an overnight stop

Timed out, but here’s link to Scar Close

By the way, Francis. If you fancy some easier driving off A66, get your maps out and look at the old A1. You can get on it and happily tootle virtually traffic free down to Wetherby. Rarely much on it, perhaps the odd farm vehicle.😁

Another possibility is Ivy Hall Farm at Bowes - 15 pitches, £15 and plenty of good reviews. Is that one which left the Clubs in order to be able expand?

That looks nice EuroT, one for us to think about. Do you know if access is easy going East along A66, it can be stressful trying to get across dual carriageway at times? Excellent for going West though👍

No problem. A66 is different every time we go along it, some right turns open, some closed😁

That looks nice Nellie, is the gate quite wide?

Difficult to tell from Street View.  Is it then a right turn into the site?  Our van is quite long, is there plenty of width for the right swing?

It might be a bit tight for you, Kjell, if I remember correctly. It is definitely a right turn into the site. It was a few years ago that we visited there.

This one is a CL site we’ve used a couple of times, not far off the motorway near Catterick Garrison.
