The below was just posted on Facebook by the owner of a CL. I wonder why none of the other CL owners have posted a similar comment on CT, and why the club is proposing opening club sites 10 days before allowing CL's to do so. Could it be that HO want to ensure that they grab as many members as possible that are desperate to get away in their units before those members decide that CLs are a safer option while the virus is still with us?

"We have now been informed by the CAMC that we can open on the 15th July providing no problems from Scottish Govt.
Will love to see some Visitors as has been a very lonely few months, and lets hope many of our Tourist Attractions will open as well. With fully serviced pitches it means our Visitors will be very self contained."

The difference is that Boris as suggested the 4 July for England and the Scottish government the 15 July for relaxing restrictions on leisure activities. The clubs Scottish sites will not be able to open before 15 July. The online booking system won’t let you book Scottish sites before the 15th.

I don't think that Boris, or anyone else has actually suggested that sites can open on July 4th. It is just a presumption by most of the holiday industry that the rules will be relaxed enough by then enabling them to open, providing there's no spike in cases of the virus.

Neither of the clubs are taking any bookings in Scotland before the 15th July. This is the date 'anticipated' that they will be able to open.

I believe the English sites and CL's are 'anticipating' opening on the 4th July. What is happening in Wales is still a big secret wink

It’s been announced here that all going well sites can open on 15th July (fingers crossed)  I haven’t saw anything official from UKgov regarding sites in England opening but any sites I follow on Facebook seem to be gearing up for 4th July

Probably confusing 4th July with Independence day. wink

Perhaps we'll be able to buy "Make CAMC great again" baseball caps.

Shhhh, keep it quiet, it might be the only area not rammed to the gunnels😁 Then again, we did a fortnight in Wales last June☹️It rained, and rained, and rained. But not as badly as it rained on Dartmoor😂 Not so much a tan as rust last year😂😂

I have to say I am really confused I heard in the Downing street briefing last week as the question was asked when could sites open and the answer was that they had not got a provisional date for this yet.
I have looked on the gov website and there is nothing and nothing as far as I can see has been said.

Is the opening of sites on 4th July just speculation? as pubs might be able to open from this date? I have heard nothing official - just they are hoping they may be able to open as pubs are opening that date?

Can someone give any more concrete advice?

The club say they are helping cl’s with a view to opening on the 4th

I just wonder what that help is. I have just booked two cl’s for August and both said they would have to keep the toilet/showers closed. One explained that he was to keep a pitch vacant for one day after a member had left so he could prepare it for the next caravan. That will cause a loss of revenue

I didn’t ask questions but where is this advise coming from, not from the club as their facilities are remaining open unless the government say otherwise

Sounds a bit daft to me, Harry.  What preparation can you do to the pitch? Most I've ever seen is the owner whizzing round with the lawnmower if the previous occupants have been there any length of time!

Surely, they're not going to be disinfecting the grass / hardstanding???

We are very pleased to share with you our intention to reopen the majority of our campsites from 4 July in England and 15 July in Scotland, based on current Government guidance.

    Scotland is 15th

Harry, it was reported on another thread that 2 CLs in Norfolk were not going to open this year as they found the Clubs requirements too onerous.

So if the club are telling CLs to close a pitch for 1 day are they doing the same for their own sites. 1 pitch for a CL represents 20% of their income. This seems wrong and I hope someone from the club, or a CL owner/poster, will give us some facts.

Not booked anywhere yet as we need to make sure MiL is happy to be left to her own devices. Will probably try a week somewhere not too far away in England Mid July and see how things pan out.

Hope you enjoy your planned break.

I can fully understand a CL with loos and showers deciding not to open them at the moment, given all the H&S that will be required, but it would be good to have some factual information from CLs around any basic changes that might be happening. Perhaps someone from the CL owners group could enlighten us? I’d rather hear from them than the Club to be honest.

Ttda, all the CL owner has to do is close the toilet and shower block and let members know that when they book. If they have other facilities or feel vulnerable themselves then I can understand them closing but what Harry has had reported seems silly.

    Re the reopening of CLs the club website says;

"Our network of Certificated Locations and Affiliated Sites will also be able to open from the same dates"

Those being the 4th and 15th of July respectively in England and Scotland.

The English Govt has said on more than one occasion that the leisure industry will not open before 4th July.  So based on previous statements about what might happen, and then did happen, assumptions have been made.  Also the various bodies that represent particular retail sectors e.g. hairdressing are having discussions with Govt (presumably civil servants) about precautions that will be necessary.  I assume this is happening with various reps from caravanning & camping.  Living in Lincolnshire, lots being said on local news about holiday sites with static vans and whether they will be able to open for longer than their current licenses allow, to make up for lost income.

On a separate issue - a CL we have booked for later in year is not taking children this year. This doesnt concern us, but from my conversation at booking it sounded as though this was their decision, not anything from the Club.

You are getting mixed up between England and Scotland. CLs in England are hoping to open 4th July. In Scotland 15th July.

re toilets and showers on CL's, one of the CL's we have booked informed us that they will probably close theirs to start with and then see how things work out. They did ask if it made any difference to us using their CL (it doesn't) so from this it doesn't look like they have been 'told' to close them.

I would think as theyare all private sites it would be up to them to carry out their own risk assessments   as to if they want to have toilets/shower in use

That’s a good update TG. That’s how we thought most of the CLs might operate. Do an individual risk assessment, see what’s required in terms of money and time requirements and go from there. They aren’t like Club Sites, very individual in what they provide, what they can afford, what amount of time they can dedicate. Down to individual owners then to make their own judgement.

Have just heard back from a CL owner and this is what he has said, and it doesn't paint a very good picture of the club.

To date we have been told nothing, this is not unusual. But like you I understand subject to confirmation July 4th the club sites will open. This is the plan I am working to.

Not unexpected Nellie. The Club isn't very good at communicating.

Edit - Funnily enough I've just opened the email from the club, received earlier today, which states "we are working closely with our CLs...." undecided

So why are they saying this?

I’d rather the CLs did their own risk assessments, put in place their own ideas of what they want to do to keep visitors safe. We are quite happy about phoning or emailing any site for details before we choose to stay, and I trust those CLs we know well.
