We purchased a new eldiss midhurst premier plus from Sussex caravans in Dec 2019.  We used it for 2 nights in march 2020 and after first day the cupboards were covered in ingrained white dust . We took it back to Sussex caravans who revealed  the door and porch light . Because of lockdown we were not able to pick it up.until today . To find the white mould was still on the doors .  Sussex caravan centre have said it often happens and nothing to worry about.  But we saw a different man today and he said he would research it further .  We are very worried as our grandson is not well and mould would be very bad for his health. Plus we spent our savings on this caravan .   Feel totally gutted .

Thankyou for any help you can give

I posted the following in response to your story posted earlier.

It’s mould and it happens in the right/wrong ambient settings. It doesn't necessarily mean there’s a problem. Caravans, by necessity, have many air vents and those vents also allow damp air to enter. Sometimes using a furniture spray polish such as Pledge seems to encourage mould. We've had it before and just cleaned it off and carried on regardless.

I wonder if the oils in pledge etc gives the mould a food source? Te only time I have noticed it was on a previous caravan in spots where a cupboard door was often pushed closed without using the handle and assumed that there might be a food source in the oils off our hands.

We've had the same problem from time to time , especially after a long lay up. Someone recommended rubbing it off with white vinegar , we tried it , it worked.😀.

Hi Thankyou for replies . Sussex caravan got in touch with Eldiss and they say  they have a problem in some of these models to do with seal around the door .  They say once repaired we should be ok . Due to pick it up . Fingers crossed it has sorted the problem

From what you've described, it sounds like what you get in cars when they've not been used in a while. I wouldn't say its due to a fundamental damp problem,

I too had this after winter layup a few years ago but have not had it for the past couple of years.  Yes just a wipe down with white vinegar seem to have cured it.  Don't think you should have a long term problem with this.  Sussex Caravans are a reliable and good company to deal with.
