I have just phoned the C&CC to clarify if indeed the site is open or closed and was informed by them that they ceased to be associated or run the site from 2/1/20 and gave no further information.  As I was looking for a site close walking distance into town/village this was ideal. Any other recommendations for us North of the country

The C&CC have sites with easy access to Keswick & Braithwaite.

It's not in the lakes but if you want a club site with very easy access to the nearest town/village have a look at Hawes. smile

It would serve you better if you started a new thread.

However, Southport is right on the edge of the town. Both Meathop Fell and Coniston are within walking distance, at least for us, of their nearest towns, Thirsk racecourse site is right next door to the town but isn't a favourite of ours and Bridlington is walkable, with the possibility of a tourist train to get you back to Sewerby Hall.

Edit - You can also walk into Keswick from the site at Borrowdale, about 3-4 miles and catch the lake ferry back to within half a mile of the site.

Barnard Castle is walkable, Low Wensleydale is a flat 15 minute stroll into Leyburn.

The Melrose site is actually in the town itself.

Just booked it. Now called Bowness on Windermere. Open from 4th July but no toilet block for all of this season 2020.

Camping and Caravanning Club have renewed their lease to operate this site so book with them.

It's a Camping and Caravanning Club site, below is copied from it:

The toilet and shower facilities are closed at this campsite for 2020. This campsite was previously named Braithwaite Fold and has been changed to Bowness on Windermere
