Removing van from storage

Hi,

I’ve got some work to do on my van but although I understand the storage facility is open during the day I’m told I can not to bring my van back to my home address to work on it.
After seeing articles on how people are using their van I must admit it would make a good office for some piece!  I anticipate social distancing would be more difficult at the storage facility if we’re (all) there working on vans.

I can understand reasons for and against, but I’ve been told the reason I can’t move it is ‘it’s the law’.  Whilst I’ll abide by the rules I’m just wondering what the ‘law’ is around this subject as I’ve not seen anything apart from the static/residential holiday sites.

Who told you it's the law? Sounds like rubbish to me. If you can physically get your van out, just do it.

    Hi Tinwheeler,

It was the owner of the storage facility

Caravan sites are still closed by law and likewise storage if it is on a site but the very fact that you can access yours by day must mean it falls outside of the law.

I assume you are in England where Caravan dealerships are open so ask yourself what is the difference. I can drive my MH pretty much where I want in England providing I don't stay away overnight so why not a caravan?

Ask the storage owner to provide proof.

Obviously I don’t want to annoy them and lose my storage pitch. But I’d have thought it would be safer for everyone if I was to remove the van for work rather than attending the storage, when I assume many others will be sorting their vans after winter.

I was wondering if it’s the same as when you’re told ‘it’s law dogs aren’t allowed in pubs’ etc. When really there’s no such law and it falls in to not allowing them in to food prep areas, the same as a member of the public entering a food prep area. It’s personal preference

I’ll ask for clarification from them. 👍

Certainly doesn't apply to our storage. Just took our MH out for the second time for a run round. First time was a month ago when the restriction on non essential travel was lifted. If I wanted to bring it home to work on or clean I would.

We had a call from our service engineer to say that we could take our van for it’s overdue service last week.

out of courtesy I telephoned our storage site operator and he advised me no problem with access, open as usual. Just wear gloves and maintain distancing.

we picked up the van, took for service, washed it on the drive the day after and returned it to storage with no issues.

    Hi

That's an interesting storage place you're in! There is no law regarding moving your van at all.

If you have room for the van at home why have a storage spot?

I was able to visit my van in Caravan Club storage on Tuesday for an hour. But I'm amazed that, although I can shop freely etc, the appointment system will continue until the 6th July.

I want to sell my van. If a couple want to visit to see it, I have to make an appointment when one is available, and then take one other person with me to see it - in other words each half of the couple separately.

    Ridiculous.
