What type size septic silage tank for cl?
Hi All
Hope you can help. We are setting up our new CL and need advice on what other CLs have installed for waste? We’ve just been quoted over £2,500+vat for a 9,100L silage tank. We were told Septic tanks were no good because of the chemicals used in caravan/camper toilets.
Advice desperately needed.

I would talk to a professional sewage disposal company such as CSG.co.uk and get advice about the cost of regular emptying such a tank as well as the size, location and installation of it. None of those costs will be negligible.

Hi we opened our CL last year, you need to have cess pool, this is fully self contained due to chemical waste. We have 4500 litre we are open all year and needs emptying approx 2xyear. Recommend you get a warning alarm fitted so you know when 80/90% full so you have time to arrange for waste company to come and empty.
If you contact local waste co they will be able to advise/quote etc The rules keep changing so don’t get caught out.
We are in Dorset so have some contacts if your located down this way.1 -
Pam, feel free to call me here at Cholsey Grange CL. When your CL is certificated you are welcome to join the CL Owners Group where you will find masses of help in the start-up process. I realise thats a bit Chicked & Egg, so ref your tank, just give me a call and we can discuss options that will depend on your own resources (maybe you have a digger on the farm?) Best wishes Ted

Pam, We have a CL in West Suffolk. I installed a new septic tank in 2014, it is a package deal made of fibreglass, with a large soakaway which is essential. What I failed to take into account was how little water is used when only toilet waste is emptied into the tank, the grey water produced goes for the trees on site. I have found there is a need to empty ours once a year. tank size is about 4500 ltrs.
