Nunnykirk - have they closed it by stealth?

We have just cancelled booking for Bromyard Downs and transferred booking to Bourton on the Water instead. This non-facility site is still open for bookings at present. Hope this remains the case. Incidentally looked at booking Moorhampton, near Hereford, a small site but with facilities block. This site appears to be closed.

With lots of people booking I think it would be helpful if the club gave some indication of the forward planning, obviously the dates might have to be moveable and some will be disappointed. Some sort of helpful information would be welcome.

Obviously 'Need to know' only, more like a section in the SIS than a members CMC. Be a shame if some of the smaller non facilties sites fail to open this year, I don't live far from St David's CMC site and Abereiddi C&CC site, neither show any signs of life, and look how they always look ' out of season. No activity at all.

Or perhaps they are reducing pitch availability on sites to get them open as we come out of lockdown? We have bookings in July/August at Wirral York & Hebden Bridge - a non facility site - and all are currently showing availability albeit busy.

Does it not seem a little odd that just 8 of all club sites are part of the phased opening or is it by stealth that keeping them closed the club can shift members to the more expensive part of the network
That's my thoughts too Harryb.
I think you have to remember that some of those sites are in Scotland and Wales who probably will not follow Englands timeline for opening.
WN I would have thought the same if ALL the Scottish/Welsh sites were blocked off but they are not just some of the cheaper ones. My suspicious mind says they are up to no good.

There are numerous sites on the club Network that are in the red most years ,and if they are one couple that need relief to come possibly some distance to cover the wardens time off ,(its the law now) then it might just be as with the ccc will be an economic desition , not to have the costs of these sites added to what must be with both clubs as with many organisations a very serious finacial situation

Evening
Have a think how this virus has maybe taken a toll on staff numbers? I know a few colleagues who's lives have changed due to this pandemic. Just a thought

Just a thought, if the club are short of wardens on some of the smaller site they could close the facilities and run the sites with one pair of wardens, and their reliefs when necessary, and reduce the fees to that of the non facility sites.

Come on Nellie, that would mean they wouldn't get their full buck out of us poor members
Have to say I fully agree with you, surely its the smaller 1 couple non facility sites that folk are going to be more comfortable using once we have been set free. CL's all the way I think.

Actually Tammy, I think the answer is simpler. They don't have a clue.
Listening to the FM today there is zero chance any campsite will be open in Wales in July at least, yet you can book Chirk site online from 4th.July! IMO you won't see it open in August either if he carries out his warning. So if anyone wants to book a site in Wales then book an alternative in England at the same time.
ps like Nellie's suggestion.👍

Morning
I would tend to agree regarding the non facilities sites TG but the bookings say otherwise.

Or with a view looking at a healthy bottom line 😉.
On a serious note I expect folk who can travel with their van will be anxious for a change of scenery even if it is to sit in or outside their van and look at another view.
I do wish the club, we're not van owners at present so no vested interest, would outline their thoughts on how things will be when they can open, stressing that things will be subject to review and change with circumstances and government advice. It would allow folk to consider their situation and possible plans. For instance how full a site would be, facilities available, I'd be using our own, but black and grey waste plus fresh water will still need thought and actions on users and the club.

That's serious and I sympathise with those involved.
But if there's a shortage of middle aged married couples living in their own caravans for warden jobs then it might perhaps lead the way to a different staffing model - employing local people on a day basis as receptionists, cleaners or grounds staff to supplement the site manager.

One of the major concerns that members have raised is how access to toilet blocks will be managed and it seems to me that quite a large proportion of members who have expressed an opinion on this forum about sanitary facilities intend to use their own.
To this end I fail to understand why the club has decided to close all of the non facility sites for 2020, except from the look of it, Borrowdale and Englethwaite in the Lake District. These are exactly the sort of sites that will be of use to them. Obviously it might well be a staffing problem that has caused them to make this decision but NTH has come up with a sensible suggestion to alleviate this.
Looks like CLs might benefit which in itself will be a blessing.
Edit - Just noticed after a more careful look that the sites at Thetford and St.Agnes will be open.
Note to self, check before posting in future.

Afternoon
I mentioned earlier WN about future bookings. It appears that bookings for full facility sites have gone crazy but those for service point only sites are down.
The suggestion regarding staffing by NTH would work on a few sites but not if as the club plans, to open all facilities where possible. An average two couple site has 120 pitches. Running that with only one couple would have me running for the hills. Then there's the good old working time directive

I predict a fun Summer for some😎 A very long one as well, children everywhere for the next two months.

Although I'm reeling from the fact that Berwick has fallen to the Scots again and that they've also taken Powburn (only 30 miles from my doorstep) I have kept my head enough to note that anyone who has got a booking made for one of the sites that are not opening is invited to amend their booking. Presumably by amend the Club mean cancel. Are we to infer from this that they don't have the facility to email those who have existing bookings to inform them of the change of circumstances? Could be a problem for those members who don't avidly follow the various platforms where the Club is posting this information. I have visions of people turning up to places like Nunnykirk in good faith on the 4th July only to find them closed. Fireworks could ensue.

JK, But you and I know lots of sites that size which don't have any traditional wardens at all - the owner or manager employs and supervises whatever office staff, groundsmen and cleaners are needed to come in - for whatever hours are needed on a daily work pattern. And sometimes there's a swimming pool maintenance crew who come in too, and a night time security patrol as well.

That "system?" has in the past been tried on several sites in the clubs UK network ,but this is the UK and i do not think it worked on any site in the past, for varios reasons mostly i understand it was the unreliability of the "part time" people for a few hours ,which then reverted to the site staff doing the work instead ,

I have just looked on the update on the front page that states Nunnykirk wont be opening for the rest of the 2020 season!! We have a seasonal pitch there and as usual no word from the caravan club. They haven't had the decency to let us know. Will they be refunding the site fees and how do we get our caravan off site?? Tried ringing but as usual just get the call centre who cant offer any further information. A telephone call or email would be nice with a full update with instructions!!

Hi
The thing is that's not the clubs model and it's also not what NTH was suggesting. NTH mentioned closing facilities and run with less staff.

Children being around throughout July and August is usual. After all, English school holidays usually start around the 3rd week of July and last for 6 weeks. Prior to that, Scottish schools are usually on holiday and some Scottish families use English sites.
Of course anyone who doesn't wish to be on sites when children are on holiday can go later or choose an "Adults Only" site.
