    Morning

It's quite normal on a summer weekend to have 100 to 150 arrivals per day. Never chaotic as we practise good teamwork for the occasion. However saying that, we will have extra measures in place to ensure reception runs smoothly. It would help if payments were made by card or  voucher, not cash though.

Let's hope this weekends events doesn't cause a spike or second wave so folks can start to holidaylaughing

We are also booked to arrive on 4th July at Godrevy and I'm dreading what queue I might find when I get there. We were originally planning to go there as we do most years in June and after it was cancelled and seeing how quickly it was getting booked up for July decided to re-book from 4th.

We went to Chatsworth last year for the first time and arrived on a Sunday 3/4 of an hour after the 1.00pm arrival time to "let the rush get in first". Imagine the shock when we saw 30+ outfits in front of us as we went down the access road. We were in the queue for one and a half hours before getting on site! Thank goodness Chatsworth has a long access road. If this happens at Godrevy on 4th July the queue could be down to Hayle and with people trying to also get to the beach car parks, the two privately owned caravan sites etc further down the road it will be bedlam.

I will try to contact the site a few days before it opens to find out whether they have any plans to avoid the potential madness and if not will probably alter my booking to arrive on a later date and lose some of the holiday there.

That's going to make things interesting at Cirencester then!  surprised

In the light of your comments, especially "dread" of what you might find, I'm surprised that you have booked that date.

I like  holidays  to be enjoyable and as stress free as possible.

Why on earth did the wardens not take their membership cards and let them on to pitch up, before returning to the office later to pay

Chatsworth has narrow roads and several different pitch types in little enclaves. The wardens have enough problems as it is. The thought of dozens of vans being let on site all looking for the right type of pitch in the right area at the same time doesn't bear thinking about. I think normally they control the flow quite efficiently but we found the solution to the problem is not to arrive until a Tuesday at 2pm. Never had to queue and never failed to get a suitable pitch at the far end of the site (nearest the access gate to the estate. )

It seems almost unbelievable that this would be allowed to happen.

I wonder if the person counted the number of outfits or if it is a "guesstimate".

Might just turn my caravan around on our hardstanding by the bungalow and get a different view from the lounge windows and eliviate all the stress of turning up at a club site, i might even try out the onboard facilities, just a little pee, to check that they are working ok, and although flat spots are largely a thing of the past with steel walled tyres it wont do any harm to give them a spin.undecided

I can just imagine the chaos on Chatsworth site, if there were 30+? LVs on the access road   With each LV being booked in  they were directed to the correct type of pitch they had booked and it did at least give the ones in front a chance to get out of the way wink

So are you saying there is absolutely no better way to organise this - is it a case of the best and only way is the Club way?

Opening day will be unique this year. Everyone with a booking will be made aware of the process before their arrival. If all goes well it will be the new normallaughing

I don't know if you've been to Chatsworth, Mikey, but take my word for it, just taking cards off members and letting even a dozen vans drive round searching for a pitch would be a recipe for chaos. Maybe the club could limit arrival slots, though I'm not sure the IT system would cope with that! wink

As I said earlier the best solution is to avoid arriving on a Friday (any day come to that) at 1pm. To me, it's not really the sort of site that folk go to in order to sit around all day so choice of pitch is not really all that crucial to enjoying one's stay. smile

Lets hope you are right?   up to now the way the club have it seems handled anything ,from when the lockdown was first instigated to members has not been anything but very poor or non existant ,except it seems unless it is to outside organisationssurprised

I'm afraid I have to disagree with this comment. We are in the fortunate position of living 10 minutes away from Chatsworth so use the site many times a year and for some time now have been immensely frustrated when we arrive at 1pm only to find a long queue of outfits who have clearly arrived early waiting to book in (I can assure you the 30+ comment isn't an exaggeration but fortunately not the norm - it's usually 5 - 10 outfits). We have said for a while now why don't the wardens wait at the arrival area, check the members membership card against a pre printed arrivals list to make sure they have a booking and tell the driver what coloured peg they are booked on and let them on. They then find a pitch as normal and go to the office to pay and obtain the key. If they've ended up on a different peg to what's booked, tough, they will need to move - it's what would happen anyway. It's the system they use at York Rowntree Park at busy times and it works perfectly well. As for early arrives unfortunately I don't think there is any solution to the selfish members who think it is acceptable to arrive early.

No need to be afraid to disagree, C. I just can't see from our, limited, experience of arriving at the site how a large number all looking for a pitch at the same time would work, unless pitches were allocated. We've seen even a few vans choking the roads because having chosen an apparently empty pitch it turns out to be the wrong sort or actually taken by a MH out for the day.Admittedly we arrive outside of "earliest arrival" time but at least the checking in process allows for a relatively smooth flow of arrivals.  smile

It really is a non issue, easily resolved from a personal point of view. Just don’t be one of those absolutely desperate to queue up and get there as early as site allows. An hour or two later will see all of the fuss and hassle over. 🤷‍♀️

Or better still wait a couple more days till the mad, mad rush is over, that is if one must go to one of the busiest sites on the network.

I really can't understand how some can attempt to absolve themselves from any responsibility to minimise that 'suggested' chaos! May be some thrive on it and wish for it. Surely we are in this together and should help that smooth arrival and return to our wonderful pastime!
