Nunnykirk - have they closed it by stealth?
I've just been lookingaround possible sites to visit once we are free to caravan again, can't come too soon!
A couple of weeks ago, I saw that Nunnykirk had plenty of availability, tonight all dates show as Closed/Full. I don't believe it's been suddenly booked up for the rest of the season and all I can find from a search is that they're not accepting bookings for 2021 season.
If it's been closed, that's a great shame as it's a lovely site in a beautiful area and, having no facilities block, it's an easy one to ensure social distancing.
Does anyone know anything?

We have a four night booking for mid July and have had no notification as yet that it has been cancelled. We only made the booking last Sunday and will be annoyed if that is the case as we have we have bookings either side of it at Old Hartley and Powburn, bother of which are booked over the period we are at Nunnykirk. I do know that there has always been questions when the lease comes up for renewal which stretches back many years and I think that it was one of those periods before the shutdown of sites because of the virus, but I assumed everything was sorted for this year when we were able to book.

The club are very poor at communicating in this regard. A couple of years ago we booked a week at Chatsworth for early March. As it is a very popular site we booked as soon as the dates became available. A few months later I noticed that Chatsworth was listed as being refurbished that spring. Checking the website for the time of our booking it was now shown as closed. We never recieved any communication from the club. As we didn't want to go anywhere else at that time I just left the booking. Several months later the club decided the refurbishment wasn't going to happen and we did go away that March. Wether we would ever have been told if it had remained closed. Who knows.🤷🏻♀️

We've got a booking for mid July and haven't been contacted to say it's been cancelled. There's no way that the site will be fully booked for the rest of the season, so it's either closed or it's some problem with the website. Hopefully the latter.

I have been looking at some sites for August ,and noticed that Great Yarmouth site shows awning pitches available all August , but not so with non pitches? is that correct ?
And other what seems anomalies (not so glaring as GY) with bookings for some weeks ,i have also wondered if there is a problem with some sites bookings
In the past we have had two bookings with different booking numbers for the same period on the same site

I've been looking too, many of the sites, small and large seem to be booked up at the beginning of the possible opening season. Does this mean that sites will be crammed with visitors when they first open, how will all this work out? It would be great to know a little bit more about what to expect if trying to plan ahead.

Its the same at the Clachan site. I've been looking at making a booking there and the booking page is saying that its fully booked for all the year. I don't think that is the case, there is nothing in the info to say the site is closed. Might have to get a hold of a staff member on the 'chat' to find out what's going on.

I booked the Nunnykirk one about 2 weeks ago. At that point it came active on 4th July and had no dates full. It's the type of site that never gets fully booked, having no facilities, being fairly large and geographically remote. It's almost impossible for any site to show as totally full under normal booking conditions anyway as the freedom to book lengths of stay of choice inevitably leaves the odd day free which nobody would then book as it amounts to nothing but an overnight travel stop. Which is highly unlikely at a place like Nunnykirk.
There's a rabbit away here, I feel.

brue, you might be right, I've just scrolled forward on the Clachan calendar and it appears fully booked until 19th March 2021 the date that its due to open next year.
This would mean that we would be forced to use the 'facilities' sites which of course cost more, sneaky manipulation by the club me thinks.

It could just be that the Club are trying to configure the pitches on all sites and work out how many of these pitches will be allowed to be open, so they are making sure that they don't take any more bookings until they know for certain how many can be safely accommodated.
Hey, it makes more sense than the nothingness that the club are giving members, as usual.
Then again maybe they're just closing some sites! Who knows.

WN, could be but it looks like its some of the non facilities sites that are having this issue.
Maragowan just along the road from the Clachan is working for taking bookings but at double the price of the Clachan they can forget that. I just have this feeling they will not open some of the 'cheaper' sites. How they justify a price difference of £16 a night for a shower block is beyond me. Less than a mile between the 2 sites.

Agree completely with your sentiments, TG, and so have liked both of your posts.

There is a note on the site details for Clachen to say that due Covid 19 and this being a volunteer run site it will not open this year. No note on other two sites and had a look at three other no facilities sites which you can still book.
The CCC have listed 12 sites that will not open again this year.

There is an update from the club in "What's on" stating there will be phased openings when things can go ahead. I put this on the July Opening thread but it seems to have a server error on it part way through. The update was on 4/6/20 but the heading on the main website is still the previous Covid19 update.

We usually go to Nunnykirk at some point most years, have been going there for years. When I recived this years price list earlier in the year I noticed the price had gone up fronv £15 to £18 per night. I thought the club must be discouraging members from using this site. Not usually full, and quite a lot of seasonal vans, which must go a long way to covering cost at around £1000 for a seasonal pitch. Why can’t the club keep members informed?

We usually go to Nunnykirk at some point most years. When I received this years price list earlier in the year I saw the tour for less price had increased from £15 to £18 Per night. Quite an increase, not encouraging members to visit. Never full, but quite a lot of seasonal outfits, with many booking year on year, which must go along way to covering the costs at around £1000 for seasonal pitch. Why can’t the club keep members informed of what’s happening, instead of keeping us in The dark?

So the latest club news says there will be a phased opening of sites. I've looked at all 11 of the “Tour For Less” sites as three of those sites are mentioned in this post. It looks like it is these that are part of the so called phased opening.
Aberbran, Altnaharra, Bromyard Downs, Clachan, Gwern y Bwlch, High Onn, Nunnykirk and Slinford are all closed, whilst the following, Broomfield Park, Cadeside and Ilfracombe are open from the 4th. Interestingly Cadeside’s price is £20 No doubt being seen as a bit more lucrative being so close to the M5 and a good overnighter.
Does it not seem a little odd that just 8 of all club sites are part of the phased opening or is it by stealth that keeping them closed the club can shift members to the more expensive part of the network
Food for thought
Incidentally the "Offers" page still shows these “Tour For Less” sites at £15

It's not that many years since such sites were the subject of a fanfare of advertising at £10. Whilst one must expect some inflationary increase of price, a jump of 20% for the "cost-conscious" who seek out these sites can only accelerate their demise. Perhaps it's part of the Baldrick strategy.

I've got an active booking for July 10th and 11th at Nunnykirk, booked specifically because it's a small, remote, less popular site without an amenities block. If it isn't going to be open by that date I wonder when the Club will get round to informing me? 72 hours before perhaps?

So far as I can see the only one already announced as not opening this year is Clachen but most of the others on the "cheap" list with exception of Cadeside for obvious reasons (large storage site) do not seem to be bookable at the moment. You can still book some of the other no facility sites like Englethwaite but I have not looked at them all.

We are booked on Bromyard Downs for four nights from Sunday 19th July. Only made the booking last weekend, now showing full/ closed for all of July and beyond. Come on Club, tell us what's going on, so if these non facility sites are not reopening, we can book elsewhere whilst vacancies exist. I appreciate no one knows yet when sites will open, but we just want to be prepared for when they do.
