Yes, folks are desperate to get out. Anything involving large numbers of people, no matter how well organised isn’t for us at the moment. But I hope everything goes well.

I notice that hot bed of revolutionary left wing journalism the Daily Mail has a splash on its front page claiming that a certain government advisor is going to quit in 6 months time - don't ask me for the details - you'll have to buy it and get as far as page 6 to find out more!  surprised

I am amazed this thread has not been closed, or many posts Deleted User, considering how much political discussion is taking place. Have the forum Ts & Cs been amended?

    "…has been done to death"

I can’t make up my mind if that choice of words is prophetic or simply in bad taste.

Whatever, it has not ended, Steve. There are still unanswered questions, not least on the handling of the situation which allowed an employee to have immense power to the unprecedented extent of being allowed to hold his own press conference in the garden of No10. His boss has not shown himself to be a strong, clear thinking person in his handling of this and one wonders what undue influences might have been brought to bear.

I, for one, am happy to see the press continue to strive for the truth and a satisfactory conclusion as, what we have so far, is a fudge and an exercise in sweeping things under the carpet. A humble apology rather than arrogance would have helped and we, the people of this country, should not settle for fudge.

I'm reminded of that old saying by Lord Acton "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men..."

So the Welsh first minister has just outlined the easing of the lockdown for wales, with a plea to stay local (5 miles).

The five mile guidance for what constitutes staying local is a “rule of thumb”, Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford has said.

He asked people to "use their own judgement", adding: "But what I'm asking people to do is to use that judgement seriously and soberly.

So, plenty  of wriggle room there! surprised

Just adds to the total muddle at the moment, W. Groups of up to 6 in England (but only from Monday - good luck with that one!)  8 in Scotland,  10 in Northern Ireland and now, I believe any number in Wales.  Presumably the "expert scientific advice" is getting lost in tranotation!

Still, looking at what's happening in Minneapolis at the moment I guess we should be grateful that any civil disobedience over here will be restricted to the level of using the bathroom in one's parents house! wink

You are right M it is very confusing and mixed messaging from all sides to be honest. We have decided that we will be using our own common sense to try and keep ourselves safe as we all know nothing in life is risk free but the risk can be reduced with common sense and we think we have good judgment regarding our own wellbeing/safety etc we certainly won't be having a massive party or anything like that but we are hoping to see a few relatives over the weekend out tin the garden and have  a BBQ. The one rule that makes no sense to me is have people round but don't let them use your loo yet in the next statement teachers etc are being allowed back to work where I am sure they will need to use a loo at some point throughout the day it is things like that, that don't make sense and make us more inclined to use our own judgement in such matters.

I'm sorry Rufs but I'm fed up with this sort of argument.

Every Government, MP, Elected Councillor, CEO of a company, or anyone in any sort of position of authority knows that one of the basic tenets of Democracy is Accountability.

You don't have to run the company to hold the Board to account if you are a shareholder and you certainly don't have to put yourself forward to run the company. Ditto for Governments. Those who run for office do so with open eyes knowing that their very actions will be held to account, firstly by their constituents, then their party and by the country as a whole. People who are governed by them have every right to praise and criticise according to their point of view.

I don't have to put myself forward as an MP to hold a view. This argument that you can't criticise because you don't want to run for office is a poor one.

Obviously if we look at from a caravan forum perspective then, according to your logic, no-one will be able to criticise the CAMC heirachy about anything if one is not prepared to run for office.

It is indeed a fine line but to my mind it depends on how you approach it. The COVID pandemic has the possibility of impacting on us all be that directly or indirectly. Our future survival depends on how our elected Government of the day acts and I think you can be critical or supportive without necessarily being political. If we were in the middle of a General Election and people were putting forward their views on one side or the other that would be political. However discussing how the COVID situation is being handled is not that far removed from discussing how the Club has reacted to the same problem. What I would encourage is for people to be as apolitical as possible and think carefully how they phrase their replies as clearly some have passenently held views which do stray into the political which does make a discussion like this to more difficult to survive without major moderation.

The difference in Wales is that the First minister explained his reasoning for the easing in clear, precise terms. He has the backing of the other parties and the population in the way he has dealt with and explained  the situation. No bumbling, arm waving waffle. He trusts us the people and we trust him. We will put up with the tighter restrictions in the short term,.He also pointed out how the next move will  likely be and advised businesses to use the next 3 weeks to get ready for further easing. Common sense, Simples. If England had been the same  perhaps the hoo ha of recent weeks would not have taken place.

But then the longer Wales keep the restriction in place for their tiny population ,the more the First Minister will be hoping to curry favour with some of his population,  when he comes to the UK, English government cap in hand for the bailoutwink

Hi everyone, A polite reminder to please be mindful of the guidelines about discussing politics on Club Together. I do appreciate this is a very hot topic in the current situation but please consider your postings, as discussions on politics can often get very heated very quickly. This is why we ask Club Together to be a politics free forum. Many thanks.

I must admit I was getting a bit worried. We've managed to discuss nearly every "concern" there is in this thread and it times I thought it might get locked!

I've found it very interesting reading the different views and at times I've agreed with two opposite opinions at the same time, but it is starting to get a bit fierce.

Rowena has given us a gentle warning so come on everyone lets change the slant of the discussion.😊

My latest concern is that I'm back to work on Monday and I'm nervous about what to expect, in terms of wearing the ppe and seeing how things work generally with social distancing etc.

I am sorry if I upset anyone with my post that was singled out for removal. I made no reference to individual political parties, or individual politicians, and tried to focus on the morality and ethics of a system that plainly allows some to interpret advice for their own ends, with the compliance of those in positions of power. This could apply to any political party or individual, indeed to anyone in a position of power, political, work based, whatever.

I used an allegorical example of how some folks are happy to just go along with most things that occur, whilst others choose occasionally to challenge the status quo, in the hope of improving things for the majority.

You're lucky - I haven't even had the courtesy of a bog standard automated holding reply from our MP who, although not of my choice, I have always considered to be a good constituency representative.  But then she has recently been promoted to a junior ministerial position so maybe her constituents are less of a concern these days. frown

Wales was behind Southern England in the spread of the disease and it has only just peaked here in North Wales. Probably why we are more cautious. Wales get no more than its fair share of the UK Tax budget, which we have provided through or own taxes into the pot.
