Go for the Milenco. It is calibrated and designed to meet the BS standards. Reads up to 130kgs so you know how overweight you are.

We bought a nose gauge but instructions not that clear. We lifted the steadies and lowered the jockey wheel onto the gauge. It didn't reach. So we put some blocks of wood. So the question then is how high the blocks of wood? I feel I must be doing something very stupid.

I brought a Milenco some years ago and used it once, seems to be a bit of a waste

They all say there calibrated to some extent but you would need to have it calibrated at regular intervals as all springs that get compressed or stretched will weaken and be out of spec.
