12 months ago, almost to the hour.
My annual ticket has now expired.☹️We were going to visit again when we were at BW in April, which of course never happened.

Wending my way from Metz to Camping Indigo in Strasbourg for a three day stopover en route to the Black Forest.
Why have I posted this? I think I'm going to cry now.

"We drove to Buttermere, found some free parking and set off to walk up Red Pike, sometimes seeming almost vertical. It was ruddy hard work. We managed it after a break at the tarn for some energy boosters. The views from the top were fantastic and well worth the effort. We continued along the ridge to High Stile, which stand a bit higher than Red Pike and after lunch carried on to Giant Haystacks. There were more people coming up from Buttermere Lake to GH but we descended to the lakeside and walked slowly and achingly back to the car but we did see some Ring Ouzels and Wheatear on the way down in the scree.
We enjoyed mostly good weather but the wind was a bit cold. The views though were heart warming and truly magnificent. So a total of 3500' approximately climbed and about 10 miles of walking. Tired but proud of our efforts. Back to Borrowdale site and a shower in the van before having a M&S Chilli meal and a well earned few bottles of beer. We may not do much walking tomorrow though."
So says my diary from this day 2019. My legs have gone all wobbly just reading it again.
Hope whatever you were doing brought as much joy to you as this day did to us.

A year ago today we were staying on Delftse Hout in Holland, which is about 3 miles from where my friend lives. We spent a week there, and on this day cycled from Delftse Hout to Aldi and Albert Heyn in the morning to do some shopping, and in the afternoon to Drievliet (amusement park, but we didn't visit!). Total 20 miles cycled in very nice weather.
Next day, the 25th, we set off for France, and came home on the 30th of June.
It all seems so long ago and so far away now.......

We had just returned from a stay with our daughter’s family in Hampshire, to celebrate the New Year. This has been a regular practice for quite a number of years, being one of the few occasions where distance doesn’t prevent our meeting together. This New Year has been starkly different, and the change has been painfully felt. Even if the virus cannot be totally eliminated, let us hope that, once vaccination is firmly established, we can all resume our natural social gatherings both freely and safely.

The last family social event was on 5th January 2020 when we drove down to Hampshire for my sister-in-laws 80th birthday. I think the last thing we did before the first lockdown was collect the motorhome from the dealer after it had been serviced. 600 miles later it needs another service!!!

Gran Canaria, try and spend my birthday every year in one of the Canary Islands to alleviate the UK winter gloom - really missing it this year.
