Has anybody got a Total Cool Cooler.  They seem very expensive at over £300 and appear to just blow air through a water filled foam pad.  Would be grateful to hear from anybody that owns one.

Evaporative coolers are OK at cooling (taking the latent heat of vaporisation 2,260 kJ/kg of water from the energy in the air) but just consider where the water being evaporated goes to (....and where it will potentially re-condense!)

We have a similar version that was also not cheap. It is a bit of a rip off, having taken it apart to see what we got for the money, totally disappointed.

the unit consists of a couple of fans that would be about £6 retail, foam pad that are expensive to replace but probably cost pennies to make and a small transformer I suppose to allow the unit to run either battery or mains. Again probably less than £20 pound, plastic box.

If you want to use it only on mains, check out JML Cooler. Same thing for £40 there is also a mini version for £15

    JML cooler £30 from Dunelm

Further to my post, I would suggest looking at Halfords mains to 12v adaptor which wild then allow the junk unit to be used on mains and battery.

    Totol cost

    adaptor £15

    cooler £30

    £45 seems a better deal than £300

I see their website advertises it as able to run from a USB. Could be an alternative to air-con, if not quite as effective, if not on a hook-up.
