Access to Storage Areas - A Plea
The Canal & River Trust has said that narrow boat owners are able to visit their boats as the ban on essential travel is over. It is down to private mooring owners to decide whether to open their sites to customers. Limited cruising is possible.
In comparison the CAMC refuses to open our storage sites. Government guidance is cited that keeps camping grounds closed. It’s surely possible for the Club to create access to storage areas which is a completely different matter. While ease of access to storage area may vary, all are open air in extensive grounds. The National Trust is opening it’s car parks, with decisions devolved to local staff. CAMC staff on furlough should be fully employed where storage sites exist. Vehicle safety is not an optional activity. It is a requirement. The Club should amend its policy and support and not frustrate its members who wish to access their units while adhering to social distancing.

So you expect the club to pay for full time staff just in case the odd person wants access to their unit that's in storage.

Whats so critical that it cant wait a few weeks. After all you cant use your unit for a holiday and all the service yards are closed.

The latest club statement Of 11 May contains the following regarding storage. The message is to wait.
Btw, ban on 'essential' travel?

When they are getting over £600 per year per unit for storage?and no contact of staff needed to access
When the shutdoawn was implimented, and all storage compounds were locked with bo access, it was done without any leeway to give those who use their LVs regularly , any opportunity to remove anything that was not normally needed when the LVs not used,

I think the OP was referring to the possibility of things like theft or damage. At our storage area as part of its gold standard CCTV is monitored and the site regularly checked. Are the wardens permitted to check on / be responsible for the storage security if they furloughed?

My understanding is that if you have been furloughed you are not permitted to do any work for your employer whatsoever. People that have been furloughed at the company i work for have had their company email account suspended, their company issued mobile phone switched off and access to most areas of the company intranet blocked. this has been done so if audited by the treasury or inland revenue it will be easier to demonstrate they have not been able to work.

That is also my understanding as both daughter and partner are in that position
Our dealer when the lockdown came sent an email to all customers adviseing that they would close in a weeks time , to give those in storage and other customers a chance to retrieve anything or their LV if in for service, before access denigned
