Motorhomers V Caravanners
After receiving a legacy 7 years ago, I did something that I had been thinking about for around 40 years and bought myself a motorhome and shortly afterwards, joined the Caravan Club. Like many others I was very surprised when the Caravan Club suddenly changed to the Caravan and Motorhome Club. I don't know why they did that as surely all motorhomers must know that the Club allows both caravans and motorhomes on their sites and personally I thought it a huge waste of money as well as disliking the new colours and dreadful, new logo. I have noticed however, when reading some of the discussions (and letters in the magazine), that it is obvious that some caravanners dislike and resent motorhomers and some even blame them for the change and the expense of the change.. There is even a comment on a recent thread that perhaps the Club is putting up its fees because some motorhomers have large, expensive motorhomes! Some people have VERY large and expensive caravans and very expensive vehicles to tow them with but I don't think for one minute that the Club is putting its fees up due to that reason. I find these comments puerile in the extreme and wonder why there is so much animosity amongst certain members. What does it matter if you own a caravan or a motorhome as surely we all use a site and its facilities in more or less the same way!

The issue is in the title of the post "Motorhomers V Caravanners"
There is no us and them in my eyes but then I am relatively new to caravanning and tend not to use club sites anyway so have always been used to all kinds of vehicles, vans and cabins, pods and even tents, I really don't care.
Many traditionalists don't hold this view.
The travel leisure industry has diversified, evolved, and grown on a wave of popularity in the past 10 years more than in the last 50.
The obsession with toilets, pegs and booking methods just doesnt matter any more, there are so many diverse options that suit people better.
I do get frustrated that the club has the resource, membership and lobbying power to drive a positive message and agenda but just seems to be content to follow and let the world evolve beyond its borders. This is due to how the club executive is selected but it is reflective of what the majority of the membership want so is not likely to be changed.
