Oh dear! Glum pooch here. Noisy One had a dogastrophy yesterday, front wheel sheered off my chariot. Something called a weld had failed. Anyway, it caused a bit of huffing and puffing until we got back home.

Mr Fix it is on the case at the moment though, so hopefully I shall be trundling around again merrily later today.

There have been murmurings that it was something to do with my (not having any effect) diet, but I feel these are totally unfounded rumours, made up by someone who should know better in the dieting department!

Not all bad news though. I saw Grandma Cheese today, 💕we took her some supplies up and lucky me, I got to go in the house. Noisy One had to sit outside for a chat. She’s banned, but not me!

Hi there all you canine friends, it’s Isla the West Highland Terrier here! This lockdown business is great for me and my brother Angus. We get loads of outside time instead of having to wait until our humans get home! It’s been a bit traumatic for me today though as mum decided I needed a haircut. I have to say though she didn’t do a bad job and hopefully I’ll stay a bit cleaner now. I’m just glad I don’t look like that poor dog from the Specsavers ad.

Its time for our exercise period now so we’re off to drag mum round the fields.

Take care of your humans and remind them to stay at home.

    Isla

Hello Isla and Angus😁 It’s a rum do all this haircutting business isn’t it. There are some unusual home done cuts appearing this week now weather is warming up, not seen anything too drastic yet though. Unlike some of the humans who are starting to look a tad Catweazle if you get my drift!😂

Hope that Mr Fixit  can come up with a solution for your chariot, Sniffer. I did enjoy seeing t'other one trundling you along in it when we last met. I wasn't a bit jealous really!! I'm getting fit at the moment, with lots of runs off the lead as the old sport 's field are quite quiet. I seldom get a chance of a run up there as we're away in the big white boxy thing so often. I don't ever get a haircut, just a good brushing and combing, but I hate it when the not-so-gentle one tries to untangle the feathers down my front legs...ahhh!! The gentle one was able to get her hair cut the day after we got back from the last trip away, and she has the job of keeping what's left of t'other's short. Getting near time to drag him out again for my last trot on the field so see you again soon.

    Arbuthnot back again!

I have visited my house and eaten of the food, I left a calling card so the fussy one knows 😀. But there may have been other visitors to my house and food bowl 😱😱. There are calling cards, in the house in 3 places including in the bowl as well as one on the patio well before the entrance!

Does anyone have any advice ideas or is this not a problem page?

Ps the fussy one spend an age watching a thrush bathing in the bird bath, she's very mixed about it. Was wonderful to see but thrushes always seem to portend bad luck in her experience - let's hope it's not the case this time! Shes never noticed one in the bird bath before so maybe it's a better omen?

Mr Fixit did indeed fix it! And it actually rolls much easier than it did, they think the front wheel might have been ever so slightly out of true. So emergency over, I can get out easily for a sniff.

Not getting bored yet at all, plenty of attention, I have lots of toys to play with. I am what’s known as a Reverse Labrador Retriever (quite rare). Instead of fetching things back to my human’s, I take my toys and leave them all over the garden, so it’s my human’s that do the retrieving bit. It’s very amusing watching them trying to find everything, especially if it’s raining, or something has “accidentally” been left in the pond!

I am lucky to have a couple of friends as well close by, Petal next door, who is rather shy, and doesn’t like me getting too close, but my new best buddy is Toby, next door but one. He is great at escaping, so calls round most days. We trashed Noisy one’s new pond yesterday, great fun!

A thrush! They are quite rare round us, so I think this is very good luck.

From personal experience, the hedgehog poo would be thought as a rare delicacy if I was around, it wouldn’t last long I can assure you! But it’s an acquired taste, and not for the dodgy stomach. Sadly, my innards have led me into some dreadful escapades, so not only do I get all the unfortunate veterinary visits, but I am literally in the doghouse, curt commands, no up close kisses, fewer cuddles......... My last big culinary adventure was a cracker. Pretty village in North Wales, riverside walks down to beach, and that’s where it all went pear shaped. I came across a long dead crab, a delicacy beyond my usual dreams. Humans were bird spotting, so only caught me on the last few mouthfuls. I was fine rest of day, but then 2am in morning......oh dear. I won’t go into details, but Mum has to sleep downstairs with me, up every hour. Whisked off miles away to some unknown vet (nice but didn’t know me). Took ages to sort me, and apparently all their holiday pocket money. I was ill for two days, and in the end they had to come home a day early, leaving Grandma Cheese and Auntie Carrot to stop on their own. I do have a record for spectacular upset tums, but that’s only because they used to have terriers, and everyone knows terriers can eat anything and it doesn’t affect them. Unfair really to judge a fellow on his weakness.....

But Mum says that I am likely to be the last Lab that will ever grace these walls. But Imknow she would relent if someone like me came along again.....she’s quite kind really😁

well that sounds like real fun. Did you get in trouble?

Glad you have a few neighbouring pooches, we seem to have acquired a pooch a couple of doors down, it doesn't half yap! I hope your neighbouring ones are better behaved? Actually fussy one is a tad concerned as theres every likelihood of a puppy arriving here when the 12 weeks self isolation is up and so she's off to see how to avoid that scenario 😱.

Well.......not prone to barking, but Toby is the Houdini of the dog world, I am far too big to follow him through some of the gaps he gets through. He has a lovely (if hairy) little brother called Eddie, but he likes to be at home. Toby’s human came round and he was hauled away in some disgrace, but Mum just found it funny, pond is sorted again now.

Mum and Dad would love a puppy. There’s the occasional mention of the patter of tiny paws, but then Noisy remembers she has somewhere called Rome, Canada and Australia on her bucket list, so it goes quiet again.

Dad is baking for me today, peanut butter dog biscuits. He’s in the doghouse with me though, he’s just used up the only bit of flour in the house........oops😂

Arbuthnot I fully understand your invasion of privacy.......for the last three nights, when I venture out,  I have come face to face with a recording camera. 😮 ......taking VIDEOS.😮😮  My human muttered something about “that cat” and my food. At least the camera will show them that I get to the bowl before the cat! 🦔

Hi Sniffer and all you other animals who have their own keepers to look after you,

My Man friend has been very helpful digging over a patch of the garden to unearth some bones I feared had been lost but my helpful input (or should that be 'output' ?) of digging alongside of him seems to have been less than appreciated.

His attempts to keep fit by throwing a ball for me are getting more frequent in this sunny weather but he does stop to take refreshment from small bottles more often than perhaps he should.

I've just had a stern word from the Keepers about me chatting to a couple of my mates in the next garden.

“Pack up that racket” said my Lady keeper “or you'll be inside” ---- I didn't know she played tennis !!!!

Anyway, after a sleep I feel ready to let him throw the ball again so it's off to the garden and interrupt his digging.

Keep wagging (or whatever hedgehogs do), Lads and Lasses …....

Arbuthnot back again, they spotted me as I arrived and entered my feeding station abode. I can't fool them with different timings, they have this light that seems to know when I arrive, it goes from pitch black to bright instantly!

And would that hedgehog that abides with ADD46 please not give them ideas about filming me!!

Well needless to say I was rudely interrupted as I ate 😤. As if that wasn't bad enough they seemed to have not supplied my normal brand of kitten food, it's not quite the same and I'll tolerate it, but I'll let them stew and worry about whether it's ok for a while to keep them on their toes. They keep muttering about being in self isolation and they can't get out to the shops so I too have to be grateful to the hunter gatherers that bring us all sustenance.

Nice to read of others activities but you've been quiet lately.

Oh the fussy one spent sometime watching 2 thrushes in the bird bath, taking turns. Now she's not keen on thrushes generally as whenever she hears one, not necessarily the garden but anywhere, they seem to be just ahead of bad news, generally the worse kind, for her. However, as she's not seen 2 together she's hoping that it's a good omen. Fingers crossed otherwise I might lose out.........

I am rather hopeless at diary maintenanceembarassed

Yesterday I was hauled off to woods again, combined with a bit of supplies shopping. Nice to get amongst the sticks and trees again, no one around, but plenty of Sniffer threads from one or two old mates. It was hot yesterday here, and no chariot, so I had to have a good old sit down at one point. Apparently, it’s good for me though🙄

Back out in chariot last night. Local plods were amused, good to see them out and about in park. I am hoping to time it nicely for when plod horses are around, they are interesting to watch.

No idea what’s happening today, there ain’t much happening at all at the moment. It’s one of those times where you miss being able to chase your tail just to relieve the boredom, but nowadays, given my pins, it’s a distant dream.......

Hello Sniffer and you other companions, I hope you are still well and keeping up the entertainment for your Keepers.

Today I've been told my Keepers Son is coming to take me to the park – at last a decent run and a good chase of my ball collection I hope.

The Keeper bloke has been tapping on some buttons, muttering a lot to himself instead of me, watching pictures on a television screen thingy and eventually looking pleased with himself.

Apparently, and you've got to believe this, he's posted a blockbuster video (whatever that is !) on something called 'Youtub' of me playing in the back garden.

I've not seen it myself but he says some people have actually 'liked' it – see what you think.

It's time to get my Keeper out in the garden for some exercise as he looks as if he's starting to put on weight and I don't want him taken to the Vets for slimming pills or having his temperature taken – we know how that feels, don't we Sniffer ?

Anyway, keep your companions happy and well.

Excellent keep fit video Merlin, you don’t half have your human well trained. Consider my paws clapping👏 My human’s don’t do that Twitface, or Gluetube, but I reckon I could get hooked!

Been fairly routine here, not too much excitement, same old walks, but plenty of new threads on Sniffer, lots of new visitors coming to Park. There’s been some complaints about having to push hefty weights around through long grass lately though, lots of moaning about shoulders aching, and some rude comments about “lazy lumps”. Don’t know why, it gives them a good work out, keeps them up to scratch.

One major event that deserved a medal did happen a couple of days ago. Eddie the Pup decided to pay a visit. He was showing off really, leaping about, chasing round and round garden like a small fluffy meteor, showing off his youth and agility, sort of a miniature show jumper. Ha, but we all know youth takes a tumble every now and then, and his pedestal collapsed spectacularly when he mistook the water jump (or big pond as it is better known). Ker-plunk, right to the bottom where the frogs live😂Now he is usually white, and in fact was newly clipped and bathed (‘cos his Mum is a dog groomer, poor lad😱) so that made his disgrace all the worse. He was hauled off sort of green and a bit smelly, but it didn’t seem to bother him. Took a while to sort out the pond fountain though, and there were a few disgruntled looking frogs hopping around🤣

Don't tell my humans, they should have a young one arrive next month if they're allowed out. You might put them off. Oh on second thoughts.............. might be better for me and my mates.

Hi Tallulah. I was a bit of a book worm as well in my younger days, there’s something very tasty about paper and a nice hard cover. Dad wasn’t pleased at all, I was in the doghouse for weeks. Only following a family tradition, apparently the Airedale’s were serious snafflers of paperbacks, mainly those nice old orange and cream ones, and the odd green ones. Xx

Well the fussy one is happy, not sure I am!

Fussy one saw 5 hedgehogs whilst outside looking at the sky - why? No they weren't in the sky 🤣. 2 small ones came out from under the shed, its huge several of us can easily be under there and follow the self isolation rules, not kind as distant for us as were smaller!, triggering the lights. Fussy one gasped as light coming on made her jump so they shot back in. Once it went dark again rustling caused her to use phone torch, 2 more had come under the fence and were seen. They froze, she almost missed them. But did manage a photo.

She went back indoors and I appeared for a good drink and that triggers another light. She came right out 😱 I ran behind the adjacent water feature and into the hedgehog house and she lifted the lid. The nerve of some folk.

Anyway we've managed to stay out of her sight for a bit, she has been keeping the food well topped up, but saying we're eating double what we were. What does she expect there are 5 of us!! This morning we left a bit in the bowl to prove we are not greedy when there's natural food around, especially after this lovely rain, we can feed ourselves.

Someone, I'm not naming names, left her a surprise in the front doorstep and mat overnight. Only the usual calling card 😉, it wasnt me - not my shape 😂. We have to make sure humans know that steps are not an obstacle! Mind you there's nothing exciting in the open porch, an old metal cat labelled Tiddles and up until recently cobwebs and leaves, but she's gone even more fussy over cleaning places recently 😢

Looking forward to reading about others adventures

I’ve been in the doghouse☹️ All because I decided to hit the local pond one hot day last week. Yeah, ok, it was a tad ripe, but that’s just how I like it. But oh dear, the fuss and accusing looks once we got back home, thankfully the hinted bucket didn’t make an appearance. I think Bolshy human is fed up because it’s rained and she is having to do kennel tidying rather than gardening. She hates kennel tidying.........

No sign of that spiky visitor they saw last week, humans have been keeping an eye out for him/her, but no luck. We are off to local vets tomorrow, to pick up some of my tablets, so that means we go out in my Jeep, and I get onto the Woodland Sniffer trail, which is my favourite. Lots of bluebells now, and it’s gone all nice and green.

Big day tomorrow, I am off to bed now.....

Sniffer, I hope you are well.
By 'eck, fame for us both at last.
Have you seen Page 43 of the May Edition of the C&MC magazine and our exclusive letters ?
The phone hasn't stopped ringing and I've already been offered a testing job for Winalot biscuits and other Purina products as our fame is spreading.
My Keepers would shout out our fame from the rooftops but unfortunately they can't go beyond the front door and so it's a bit of a low key celebration.
My man Keeper has promised some more digging if it doesn't rain today but luckily a shower or two has never stopped me digging before and I'm sure there's as decent bone somewhere near the rhubarb patch.
Must go, I can see the Postman coming and he expects a reception and I don't like to disappoint him,
    Bye for now,
    Merl

😎 I think someone mentioned it yesterday, but I haven’t seen it yet, Bossy one insisted we stopped getting paper magazine, so it’s all digital here, and in true Club style, it’s quicker to get the paper through the post, than try and find the digital version😂

Don't fall for the early phone calls and little bitty offers that early fame can bring. Get a good agent, and hold out for the big stuff. I shall await offers of modelling and testing from Barbour and Orvis, that’s where the  true fame is to be had. I am hoping my chiselled good looks will have Barbour swooning, and I do of course look so good in tweed. Might have to ditch the chariot for a while though, get the old pins pounding the catwalk (🤣) and get my six pack back.

Of course it will have its downside as well. There will be more baths, all that grooming, lugs will be cleansed, teeth whitened (carrots are brilliant for this, taste good as well) I suppose the bedding will get changed more frequently, tsk, the joys of fame🙄

It’s not my first brush with Club fame. I was contacted to ask my opinion on Club Sites a while ago, and being a beach fan, was able to give pointers to a couple of splendid options. I like to help out making sure other canines have a good time away.

I might need to choose some publicity shots for my portfolio, should it be the deep thinking Clooney look, or the all action Arnie, or even the classic handsome?🤔

(Mum’s says I am just such a poser, Dad thinks the fame will be bad for me.....🤩)

Mum and Dad think a lot longer yet, Dad needs to be kept away from others, and there’s only me allowed to say a proper hello to Grandma Cheese at the moment. To be honest, apart from going away in my mobile kennel, and taking Grandma Cheese away in some nice cottages (I have to be a very good boy😇) we are just doing what we normally do, but with less walking variety. Mum is at home a lot more, she looks after GC some days, so I sort of get spoilt a lot more, and she’s great fun for a play in the garden. She’s ruined some of my best sniffing patches in there, too much tidying up going on in my opinion, but it looks nice.

Mum has been telling me all about my Airedale ancestors, after I found all the rolls of green wire at the bottom of the garden. Being terriers, they had to dig holes every day, and there were three of them, so sometimes the holes got very big. The wire was put up along the Borders, so that they couldn’t play with the plants she had just planted. Tug of war with plants is supposed to be an excellent game, but does result in chastisement and withdrawal of biscuits, so luckily, my genes are more of the blunder through the border type, than rip it up. 🐕
