Not being able to run our van in lockdown
can anybody tell me where the battery is located on a Peugeot boxer 2ltr Ellis’s auto quest 185?
I would like to put a trickle charger on the battery as it is going to be stood for quite a while the current unpleasantness persists.
Thanks.
CharlieB.

what year? if its after 2006 it will be under the rubber flooring ahead and to the right of the passenger seat.
does your ehu set up not charge habitation AND cab battery?
if so, just plug in your ehu cable for a while.
or...does your van have a solar set up that charges all batteries?

Ours has, MM, but the handbook specifically says those connections should not be used for charging as the battery should be disconnected before charging 🤷🏻♂️.
Troutlegs, your Peugeot handbook should tell you all you need to know. In ours (2017 Boxer) it starts on page 147.

I think that is the manufacturer covering their back side again. If that was the case, why would CTek sell these and to add to that, there is apparently a thing called 'coulomb counting' (way way above my head) that a very clever friend of mine said .... modern cars have coulomb counting to get an estimate of battery charge capacity, if you go directly to the terminals, it confuses the system (it bypasses the current monitoring) and then you get a whole host of weirdness
as the Yanks would say .... go figure 🤔🤔🤷♀️
and on my ML it's virtually impossible to access the battery which also lives under my seat let alone get to the positive terminal

There again, with a new van under warranty would you risk doing something contrary to the manufacturer's instructions? Hmm 🤔

There you go then 😂😂😂

Not sure about charging the battery, TW, but my 2012 Ducky was as flat as a pancake last week. I called 'Green Flag ' and they turned up after 3/4 of an hour, agreed with my opinion and lifted t' bonnet attached the brief-case type battery to the under bonnet points. After a couple of minutes he smiled, turned the ignition key and vavoom away it ran. Every other day since then I have given it a run { static or mobile } and it's not exhibited any signs of trouble apart from a strange movement of the fuel gauge !!.
{ Also why would the manufacturer claim you have broken the terms of the warranty if you don't tell 'em }

That’s the benefit of the under bonnet connectors, Brian. I bought a battery starter pack as you described because those modern lekky bits seem to drain the battery in the blink of an eye at times and I had no wish to wake up one morning somewhere like Altnaharra and find the battery had pancaked. Mind you, it would be a good excuse to stay longer…

I've charged my 2016 Boxer based MH via the connections under the bonnet without issue. I've since run a connection from the engine battery to the solar controller with a 90/10 split in favour of the habitation battery to save periodic charging.

Yours was the previous engine model, CY, so it’s possible there’s a difference. What does your handbook advise?

As if! 🤣🤣

I did not say how long it gets run, MM !!
I know you didn't but it takes a very long time at idle to make a notable difference to your battery's charge .... you'd be really popular with your neighbours running your engine for hours on end 🙄
Anyway ... not a problem I have 🙂

TW, the handbook says to use the connections under the bonnet to "jump start" but to use a charger, the battery should be disconnected. I have not observed this instruction having, in the past, utilised the "jump start" connections to charge the battery with no ill-effects. As I posted earlier, it now has a permanent connection to the solar supply.

Same as my book, CY. Disconnecting the battery obviously eliminates use of the jump start connections. I suspect charging with the battery connected means the ECU runs for the whole of the duration of the charge. However, you seem to have got away with it.

Thank you.

If it is the same as my Boxer Autocruise, it is under the bonnet on the left hand side. You wont be able to get to a lead on the Earth terminal - you have to use the earthing point - good old French electrics!!
An easier way, if you can, is just to plug in the hook-up for a few hours every week or so

Do you have a solar panel on the roof which will be charging the leisure battery? We have Eldis 185 2019 and we had the solar panel wired to the main battery (as an extra) as well so no need to worry about charging both batteries!
My question would be, during Covid-19, can we take our motorhome out for a run locally just to keep everything running eg brakes, tyres? Does anyone know please?

One tip while our MoHo's are on lockdown is to remove the windscreen wipers. The blades deteriorate just sitting there collecting muck and UV rays.

Oh I don't know. Big white boxes do tend to stand out a bit.
