I suspect a majority of us will impose our own restrictions, wether or not the government does. Mine initially will read:-
No trips over there this year, even if allowed.
Avoid use of public transport.
Keep away from cities and any other crowded places.
Use only campsites within 200 miles of home once they reopen.

There will however be a vaccine as there is for influenza👍🏻

Steve, i can see the logic for avoiding 'crowded places/transport' but why is a (crowded) campsite within 200 ml of home any 'safer' than one, say, 300 ml or even further afield?
surely, 'sloppy' behaviour on a site round the corner is far more dangerous than careful social distancing a bit further away?
isnt it behaviour, rather than location thats the thing weve been trying to change in order to reduce infections?

It’s a no brainer to self restrict movement for the over 70’s/immuno compromised folk. The only question is-do you want to play Russian roulette with your life. Even today both China & Sth Korea are racking up deaths. So C-19 is still out there waiting for the unwary.

As those that are more "up to speed" say ,until a vaccine is available ,then the whole world is going to be at risk, and even then they are say it may not protect every one ,even the flue vaccines do not protect all those that take up the treatment

I think it will, to a great extent, be a personal decision at some point as to what aspects of life individuals decide to resume. That will include how much socialising people do, where they choose to socialise, who they choose to socialise with, and under what conditions. Those choices may well effect other individuals in their immediate circle. For example if my daily routine goes back to normal, it may limit me visiting my very vulnerable Mum more, so that’s an aspect I need to put into the equation. If I decide to go on holiday, I might be considering other aspects such as any current outbreaks, how much might I need to rely upon local transport, etc.....
In terms of going overseas, one aspect to consider might be just how the place I intend visiting views a visitor from another country where there might still be Coronavirus outbreak. It might be a bit more complicated travelling globally in the immediate future, but hopefully, it will just be another manageable condition, like having the pre holiday inoculation shots are for exotic climes now? 🤞

amongst much of the not so good stuff, Man is a great problem solver and we've found ways around many tragic times and situations in the past...disaters both natural and of our own making...
yes, things will change a bit, just like increased security checks are now 'normal'....but we will overcome...in time...and, as you say, we will either have to embrace the new or not...
we will all have to make our own choices.....despite spilling a good slurp recently, i like to think the glass is still half full...

Me too BB, you just have to get on with whatever is thrown at you as much as you can, take what is required to stay safe as part of the adventure.🙂

My own restriction will be : Cease using Facilities on full facility sites, especially after noticing poor cleanliness of some fellow users.AND I will be using a lot of bleach, cleaning taps, handles and other commonly touched surfaces.
But yes, I will be keeping my Motorhome and touring the UK again. You only have one life, and time does not stand still.
ps. Get used to the smell of Bleach.

the flip side of all this 'cleaning' that ive witnessed for many a year now (folk wiping/spraying everything within metres of them, doors, door handles, taps, worktops, loo seats, etc, etc) is that lots of folk havent encountered a 'germ' for a good while...
bit like the antivirus on your PC, if your defences arent up to date....

Hi, re the issue of restrictions, age groups ect I feel as others that a lot will be down to the individual.
We are a mixed household, age wise, and my wife has not been away from the house/garden since Mothers Day.
Many of the things mentioned, visiting cities, crowded spaces etc, we don't do anyway so that's not a problem but it may be that we are reluctant to visit my 94 year old mother in law without maintaining social distancing , and certainly not without without exercising the hand cleaning regime.
This will likely also be a given if and when we are able to move about more freely, for instance going out to eat, which is one of our main pleasure in normal times, and I think that the food hygiene notices will be getting a lot more attention.
So far as traveling only 200 miles from home not sure why this is an advantage but if it includes over there I have a fair bit of France in range.

room?
...a week or so ago i posted a world population shapshot showing just about 7,774 million.....today its just about 7,779 million..
a rise of 5 million...
'room' (or lack of it) is likely to be 'influencial' in our future...or lack of it.

Main reason BB is I don't fancy self isolating in the MH. Hopefully in the initial stages I would be well enough to drive home to isolate there. That would be at no risk to anyone, as we are self contained in the van and 200 miles is an easy distance in a day. We always have enough fuel on board for that distance, so no interaction there. The far north of Scotland, which we had planned for May, is at least 2 days comfortable driving.

According to the experts tasked to ‘build’ a vaccine it will be 2021 before they are available-that’s when not if it’s ready. The delay is caused by starting from scratch as Covid-19 is unique(that’s why it’s a novel virus). A previous vaccine can’t be adjusted as has happened in the past.

This morning I saw on TV part of the Andrew Marr show, one of his guest was a professor from Oxford Uni. Very good interview about the vaccine they have developed and are now shortly going into human trials for it.
The professor said that once you've had the virus, it doesn't mean you will maintain the antibodies for ever, so it would be possible to get it again.
It was thought that antibodies diminish with time, however a vaccine would be better protection and last for longer. So it would seem even when there is one available, we may have to have it topped up every so often, how often is not yet known .
At present the UK does not have the capacity to manufacture sufficient quantity of vaccine that will be required. Also it may be that a different vaccine will be required for different age groups (just like the flu vaccine)
Makes me wonder why they are so busy trying to make an antibody test after hearing the professor, as it would seem its only going to work for a short period of time after you 'think' you've had the virus.

David, I think there is concern about airborne droplets, especially if you're within a metre of someone who coughs or sneezes. As well as this the droplets land on surfaces which causes another possible infection source. Public facilities will be risky for a long while yet, it's a very contagious disease. It's good that you have survived on your travels but this is not the same with Covid19.

To hear Jeremy Hunt speculate that the SW with its low rate of infection could be one of the first areas to see restrictions eased filled me with dread. Can’t he grasp that it’s because we're remote and are discouraging visitors that the rate is low?🙄 Let’s keep it that way.

Folks, thanks for the further wide ranging replies that provide a far reaching insight into our current situation, but don't seem to address my initial fundamental question.
On government advice the Club cancelled all Club site & CL bookings at least until the end of June. IF the government lift the no "non essential travel" restrictions before the end of June and the Club reopens sites will our cancelled bookings be reinstated or not?

I think the answer to your question , as in very many parts of the situation we are in is "no body knows"as with most areas of the situation we find ourselves in ,and as in many other parts of the World,
IMHO i would be very surprised to be able to use any of the seasonal sites,(Oct closing), this year, and if any do open not having all the facilities open
It would be interesting to have an update from how the sites that are still giving places to the long timers/essential workers are working
