The bump off is easy, same rules as always, last in first out

try selling that to a family who have 2 weeks booked middle of August, possibly their only holiday and possibly due to work comittments the only dates they have available , especially if they see a bunch of retirees on a site where they have been bumped off

All a bit hypothetical, but an unlikely scenario. Most booking two weeks in the middle of August book early to secure the weekends. Therefore they would be well down the list to be bumped. Not sure how many retirees actually go away in August. There will be those with the grand kids of course, but most will normally be in hibernation. Of course if they were to book now they would be behind the family and therefore cancelled first.

Opening the sites fully won't be so much about being allowed to travel, as the relaxing of social distancing. I can see this being maintained much longer than travel restrictions. This will be difficult to achieve on a full site, full trains buses etc. Therefore they may have to operate / run only partly full.

In countries such as Germany and Austria who have announced provisional dates to relax the lockdown rules, the approach will be piecemeal, to allow for any change in infection/death rates to be detected very early and a return to social isolation reinstated.

Difficult to see that UK would choose a different approach, not least because of the reputational damage that would ensue to people who have been lauding the efforts of frontline staff.

There's some encouraging news today. An Infection Study has been undertaken at Heinzberg, where the virus first took hold, and something like 14% of infectees have developed immunity. Further analysis underway, but it adds to the understanding of the virus and has to be a [small] step in the right direction.

I expect to start we will still have to keep our distance and no large gatherings etc. so maybe they can open initially with facility and all public areas kept closed to save passing on the virus (Assuming it has not gone 100%) so just open as non facility sites then slowly open as the situation allows.  Of course would expect the price to be reduced to match but at least it would be some income say for a month or so but of course it is all hypothetical at this point?

I've no expectation of going anywhere this year. I hope that some form of lockdown, including closure of campsites etc, continues for as long as it takes for us to be assured that we are all safe. I don't see how anyone (with no medical/pandemic knowledge) can foresee a time when the virus is not among us.

I agree, this is unknown territory especially if it mutates as does other Coronaviruses. I'm not a defeatist nor a doom and gloom person, but it's certainly a wake up call on just how fragile we are. Ease of global travel has a lot to answer for.

To see if there is any optimism left since the club opened bookings for April, May & June 2021 earlier this week I thought I would have a look how many sites had taken significant numbers of bookings since there are three bank holidays in this period. I looked at a few of the most popular sites and almost none had many nights showing site full even Chatsworth only had two full weekends in May &  June.

I had to go to Rowntree Park to find a lot of full nights with almost every weekend and the bank holidays mostly booked up. At least some things haven't changed,!

Scotland's FM has just said that the lockdown will remain in place for 'some weeks to come yet' and Downing Street did not contradict that assertion. Wales has already decided to continue the measures past Easter so no rush to start making plans.

I am still booked for Rowntree in August, maybe most cancelled all their other bookings elsewhere, but being optimistic, left their summer booking open as it is easily cancelled if travelling and site restrictions are still in place.

Which is exactly as we have done, I also changed the dates at an associate site to the end of August, as a deposit was paid  with the knowledge that I could change it again if needed at no extra cost.

Lets hope its not a Grandprix off the blocks or what is the point in going to remote peaceful locations only to be overwhelmed by mass migration.

I think that Mr Salmond was found not guilty of the charges [and1'not proven' verdict] so he has as much right as any of us to be out on the streets.

You do not have to be a CMC member to use this site. I suppose that the club want to encourage non members. In normal times it has been said that the adverts in the mag pays for its production. If not a member and with sites closed why would there be a need to phone the club?

Up to each to decide their course of action.

Thanks everyone for your wide ranging comments to date, but so far as I can see no one, especially anyone from the Club has answered my specific basic question about original Club Site bookings being reinstated, or not, if or when lock down is lifted.

I note a number of members seem to have written this season off already.  I'm of an age where I can count on the fingers of one hand the numbers of caravanning seasons I've got left before I have to give up caravanning for good, so each caravan holiday I've got left is increasingly precious.

And I'm aware my selfish needs are very small beer compared to the ongoing national emergency, having had a death in the family during lock down.

If I'm honest I'm struggling to think the Club hasn't got a policy on re-instating cancelled bookings in place already - if they haven't then it's something that should be addressed and members made aware of the decision sooner rather than later.  If the Club already has a policy then tell us.  I'm not interested in booking for 2021 yet, lets have some info on what remains of the 2020 season.

    Morning

Club sites definitely won't be reopening before July 1st. I'd imagine it will be a lot longerundecided

As far as I'm aware there's no policy you mention, I can't see any instances that such a policy would apply to.

I think any chance of anything being open before June is most unlikely and until there is a vaccine available there will always be a risk for the vulnerable in socialising. If the season is to be resumed at some point, I will be treating any of my outings with a great deal of caution.

Can’t see any thing that encourages transference of people away from there original place of residence being aloud to open, such as caravan parks and places of leisure activities that lets people gather in any numbers.

It may be this time next year before large movements people are given permission to resume some normal leisure activity unless or until someone comes up with plentiful supply of vaccine.

Caravan sites should stay closed at least the rest of this year just a personal view, not only to stop people clogging up parts of the country with limited services but keep roads clear for essential transport.

Our van is back on axle stands for the foreseeable future.

I think you have to assume that bookings won't be reinstated. As I said in my previous post if you can see the availability when you wish to go just rebook the sites you want.

    peedee,

Item on the Guardian UK Blog reports that vaccine testing being pushed at all possible speed 'whilst we have a large sample of infections because that's the only way we'll know if it works'. But the learned Professor says that, even taking every opportunity to speed up testing, the vaccine trials are unlikely to end before mid August, and then the full scale production has to happen.

That appears to kill off this year's Summer/early Autumn caravan/mh season.

If the rules are relaxed at some point this year.  We are in the vulnerable over 70’s group and it appears we aren’t going to released from lockdown until a vaccine is available according to the news.  So we’ve just about written off this year sadly.

Can't see a restriction on the over 70's whilst the rest of the country get on with their life being a popular move.
