We at the Club were saddened to learn of the death of Alexander Thynn, the 7th Marquess of Bath.

The Club has a long association with Longleat, the Marquess’, ancestral home in Wiltshire, having opened our site there in the 1980s.

Our thoughts are with the Marquess’ family and loved ones at this sad time.

    He was a great character despite his rather controversial reputation and carried on his father's legacy of welcoming visitors to the estate. I remember when we used to stay at the club site you could walk freely around the gardens and surrounds in the evenings after the crowds had gone. We once had a long chat with his housekeeper when she was out walking one of his elderly labradors.

    Sad that his son has adopted a more commercial business like less welcoming approach, but inevitable maybe in this day and age.

    He will be sadly missed.

    Great character ,some years ago when at Longleat site ,we did the house tour , made even more "interesting" as his Lordship took over and we were "entertained" to an extra visit to his private quarters ,and the "murals" in there were for more "interesting!" than those normally seen on the regular tourssurprised

    also met one of his "wifeletswink"

    very interesting man ,one of a kind cool
