At the recent NEC Caravan and Motorhome Show my wife and I ordered a new Motorhome, on the order form I asked for an early April delivery. I was aware at the time of the £2135 road tax for Year 1, and the £465 for the next 5 years. So I was quite pleased when listening to the budget about the reduction in tax. However a few days after the budget  I received my registration document through the post, saying it had been taxed from March 1st. For some reason the Taxation class shows it as a heavy car, and the first years tax was £855. I did contact the company to ask why it had been taxed from March 1st and as a diesel car, but still await an answer. I am now unable to collect the Motorhome due to the coronavirus so have put it on SORN. I expected to get 11/12 of the £855 back, but have got 11/12 of £465 back. As sites are currently closed until the end of June i see no point now in arranging collection until early July.

Do I have any claim against the company for taxing it form March 1st when they knew I didn't want to collect until April?

I know it isn't their fault I can't currently collect the vehicle, but by the time i get it I'll have lost a few months of the warranty. Where do I stand on this?

You could try discussing it with the DVLA to see if you can get the tax reduced.Nothing to lose by it.

I have e-mailed them but still waiting for a reply. I did read that a dealer can de-register a vehicle within 7 days of registering it. I have asked if this can be extended due to the coronavirus situation?
