Avtex w193d tv problem

Hi,

We have a avtex w193d tv and have got power issues when watching a DVD and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced it.

When we are off grid and using the 12 volts the end of the lead where it goes into the socket gets hot and melts.

It's happened twice now 1st time was about 40 minutes into the DVD and I thought it was where I overloaded the socket as it was a multi socket with usb in also. So brought another lead and this time put it in its own socket, this time it lasted around 5 minutes before it melted. 

Any thoughts? Is the dvd player got a fault and drawing to much?

    Can't help with your question but I have heard good reports that Avtex as a company are very helpful so they might be worth a call, assuming of course that they have people working.

    You probably have a high resistance joint where the pointy metal bit meets the contact in the socket. This is due to lack of surface area touching the socket contact. It is common in this type of connector but not usually for TV which takes low current even with the DVD running. 

    Check for damage in the socket due to pushing to hard into it with the plug, make sure the tip is still springy. It could be the negative contacts (the springy metal curved bits on the side) these can get weak but this usually causes the plug not to stay in the socket. 

    It should not get hot, clean the contacts with some abrasive paper and if it still does it change the plug for a decent quality new one.
