Fantasy Tour
Well as we can't move off and take a van holiday at the moment what would be your ideal fantasy one month tour in the uk? Can't think of mine just now but it would probably be in a northwards direction.

A month🤔........South I think. Straight down the country, avoid SE, start in New Forest, historic dockyards, along and into Dorset’s coast and castles, keep heading West into Devon, then along into South East Cornwall, say hi to a few friends, further on down to Lizard and Lands End, hello to more friends, then make the turn North, up over Lands End peninsular, few days around our favourite beaches (it will be the start of a heat wave😁) up, up and then whoosh, inland for a few days on Dartmoor, before heading North up towards Exmoor, along and up Bristol Channel coastline, cross over old Severn Bridge, pay our respects to the ghost of William Marshall at Striguil, and then amble North up the Wye Valley, North into Shropshire, then at Church Streeton turn East and head home through the Peak District.
We will have only three rainy days, these will be designated laundry and proper rest, lounge around days. We shall stop off at as many castles, abbeys, battlefields, historic houses, other places of interest as take our fancy. The dog will not require a vet, (even when he eats his seaside delight, a rancid crab!🙄) we shall get in some nice long walks, the sea will be warm enough to swim in, there will be few crowded places, we shall use our bikes, campsites will not be pre booked and will be a nice mix of overseas visitors and a few British, we won’t forget to take anything important, and half way round, my Sister will phone and say we have won the Lottery, Mum is fine, why don’t you do another month?

Ours is certainly north and would have been what we were planning for May / June Berwick, Perth (Scone), Pitlochry, Culloden, Morvich, Kinlochewe, Poolewe ( Inverewe Gardens), Ullapool, Durness, Altnahara, Dunnet Bay (Castle of May) Dingwall, Edinburgh, Haltwhistle and Barnard Castle. Ah well there is always next year. We are certainly not doing it in September, far to many midges.😂

I've not encountered midges in Sept, Steve, but certainly have in May/June
. It depends on the conditions at the time.I've just rebooked a Scottish site for Sept with my fingers firmly crossed. Thought I'd grab it while I can and fill in the gaps later....hopefully.

My tour would be to Spain to make my contribution to the rebuilding of the Spanish economy. Having had such wonderful care in hospital there, and less than 6 weeks before the start of Coronavirus, I still findit hard to believe that such a devastating change should occur so quickly.

The OP stated the U.K. as this is a U.K. thread, you could of course open a similar thread on the overseas section
I would go directly West to Shropshire then North Wales down the coast to Pembrokeshire, on to Brecon and into Herefordshire/Gloucestershire before making for home. Long walks, bird watching,POI and plenty of eating out etc

Sorry Steve but it doesn't count as this is UK touring section.
We've been meaning to have a long late Spring/Early Summer trip to the north of Scotland taking in some of the islands en route.We've missed seeing some of the winter birds that we see but in their best summer dresses, birds like Red Throated Divers, Slavonian Grebes, Skuas and Golden Eagles etc. with Corncrakes and Sea Eagles on the islands and Short Eared Owls on Orkney. Leave the caravan safely on a site and have a few days on Orkney and then travel back through the Central belt by which time we'll be fit and start to tackle some of the mountains, getting back at the beginning of July. The trouble is Scotland seems to have recently been discovered, so my fantasy would restrict the other visitor numbers to a manageable amount.

Yeah but - on our fantasy tour fuel will be 50p per litre and site fees no more than £10 p/n.
We will buy new vans for £10k and then sell them later for £25k. 🤣

I'm using the time to plan some new round walks in the Lakes, so Troutbeck Head first for:
Grasmere to Stone Arthur - Great Rigg - Fairfield - Grizedal Tarn then back to Grasmere.
Sergeant Mann - Thunacar Knott - Harrison Stickle - Pavey Ark - Blea Rigg back to Grasmere.
Dale Head via the Dale head mine route - Hindscarth - Robinson but then down through Littledale (not the usual High Snab bank) back to Newlands. Done all those tops before but not those routes.
Then move on to Coniston for the fells around the Old Man, still planning that bit.
Also a trip to Dunnet bay is one I've always wanted to do especially to be there on the summer solstice. again work in progress.

We have a months break booked for July this year still hoping to get. If we were able to take off for a month just now then our trip would be as follows
Hillhead Club Site - Brixham. We would base ourselves here for 2 weeks as it is our favourite site. We would visit Brixham, Dartmouth and Torquay and take our usual boat trip around Torbay. The rest of the time would be spent relaxing around the on site pool and enjoying a few beers in the club house in the evenings.
West Ayton Club site - Scarborough. This would be our next stop so we could Visit all the lovely towns in the area. We would do a visit to Thornton le Dale to the car museum we always go here when in the area. Then a drive up to Goathland for a meal at the Goathland Hotel always nice and then a trip in to Whitby for a walk around and stop off at The Black Horse for a pint of ale. Scarborough and Saltburn would also be getting a visit as would Pickering.
Durham Grange Club Site - Durham. We would spend a couple of days here as Durham is a lovely place and we would also visit Newcastle again a very lively city.
Berwick Seaview Club Site - Berwick. This would be our last stop on the way home. We visit this site often and it’s one of our favourites. Time would be spent in Berwick upon Tweed and the rest cycling along the magnificent coast track.
This is a very good thread it’s nice to see what other peoples ideas are although it’s making me a bit depressed as we are all confined to barracks for the foreseeable.

I think we'll head for the Lakes, just to wander round on some easy walks then up to Carter Bar for perfect views in perfect weather followed by a bit of roaming in the Borders.
Then Loch Lomondside (watching out for the dreaded overhangs
) I can listen to Nicola Benedetti as we drive along in more perfect weather, there will be no mists over Ben Lomond!Might head on to Port Appin to make sure it's still there and a walk round the headland at Clach Thoull.
Onwards to fill in some gaps in the north west and then the ferry to Orkney...a look round some of the old sites. (Perfect ferry trip included flat calm waters in the Pentland Firth!)

No, don’t be depressed, just keep planning😁 Think of mixing those sites up a bit, use some very nice private sites, and you can stay in some of those lovely Yorkshire villages!
We are still dreaming of Penzance/Marazion in September. Big bike race.......😁

I am often drawn back to Yorkshire despite having no connection with the County. We have been a few times but there is so much more to see. Whitby is on the list as is Castle Howard. I would also like to see some of the larger cities.

It’s a wonderfully diverse County DK. Coast, Moors, Dales, towns and cities. Depends what you are interested in of course. Sheffield has a very interesting industrial heritage, the centre is quite compact, with lots of different outlying townships. I don’t know Leeds that well in truth, so cannot comment. York of course is simply stunning, again very compact. Some of the towns are very nice, places like Helmsley, Pickering, Richmond, Skipton to name some of the most interesting and beautiful. Scarborough is nice, very hilly. I am not a fan of Bridlington, but the countryside around is lovely. The real gems are the little towns, with their still nice markets, independent shops and good eateries. There are always (usually) lots of events as well to enjoy.
I could give you the low down on places to avoid as well, of course!
Nice small private site, near Pickering, with spotless showers and loos, good price, honesty freezer. Both Castle Howard and Whitby not far away, North York Moors Railway 10 mins away, Thornton le Dale 15 minutes, Scarborough half an hour drive, etc.....👍

Not so much Fantasy eg Margowan 1997 Pitch fee #1.Adult #2-60. My Now trip would be fishing starting in Loch Scamadale, up to Loch Lundavra, Kinlochewe mountain lochs,Boat on Loch Maree,( where we caught more sea trout in a day than they do in a season now-Curse Fish Farms and their polution) Gairloch, Scourie, Durness LImestone Lochs. Accross to Kyle of Tongue. Loch Calder, Watten, St Johns and then back through Helmsdale, Loch Ruthven, Loch Leven and anything else in between. Many of the owners are now third generation since I first started visiting in the 60's

We should have been on Dartmoor right now, having set off last Sunday. So in my mind's eye I can see some of the tors we've been to in the past and would have gone back to this and next week.
Also a trip to Polperro in Cornwall whilst there, as that's where we met in the last century
And after Dartmoor we were planning to stay somewhere on the Jurassic coast, as we've never been there before. Didn't even get as far as booking anything there though, before deciding we'd better stay at home. That was well before we were ordered to stay at home.
Living in hope that, first of all we'll both survive this, and secondly that we'll be able to do the trip in September sometime. We normally go "over there" twice a year, but I can see that, even if within countries movement may be relaxed, (some) borders may not for a while. So to be able to do the trip we should have done now in September would be lovely, here's hoping.

Our main tour this year was all booked. Leaving home from Essex and heading off to Bristol where we were lucky enough to get in to Baltic Wharf site for a few days then head down to Putts Corner for two weeks before heading off to Southland on the Isle of Wight and finishing up at the New forest centenary site before heading back home.
Sadly but understandably these have all been cancelled, but we have managed to book ten days at the New Forest site in July when hopefully this horrible virus will be gone. And we have got a few club rallies still to look forward to from August onwards.
