Braithwaite Fold
On another forum I saw this post which suggest the C&CC have been successful in their bidding for Braithwaite Fold campsite in Windermere.
"Good Afternoon,
Following a tender to secure a tenant for Braithwaite Fold Caravan site, we are writing to inform you that South Lakeland District Council will enter into a lease agreement with the current operators The Camping and Caravanning Club Ltd for 25 years. The site was due to open from 1 April 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all touring caravan sites have been closed until further notice
Please monitor The Camping and Caravanning Club’s website to see when their sites are due to re-open. The Camping and Caravan Club will update their website and booking facilities in due course.
Their website, should you not know, is https://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/
Yours sincerely

South Lakeland District Council, South Lakeland House, Lowther Street, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 4DQ"
Not sure whether the CMC were in the mix?

With a 25 yr lease they should be able to some upgrades, which I am led to believe are necessary.

Hi everyone,
The Club is always looking for great new locations, using our Members money wisely, taking into consideration rent and required investment, and ensuring that any decisions made are for the benefit of our Members first and foremost. We did submit a tender for the lease at Braithwaite Fold and we were awarded the highest marks for our proposal to provide a top class, high quality site. However we were not successful in the financials requirements.
We offer a great range of sites in the Lake District, some of which are open all year round. In total we have 8 Club Sites and 31 Certificated Locations, providing more than 1,000 pitches each day. We are also in the process of introducing new glamping accommodation to Troutbeck Head Club Site. This will mean that two sites in this area will offer our glamping cabins; a fantastic way to bring your friends and family along to experience the great outdoors with you.

Hi Rowena
Thanks for the update. Perhaps the most important point is that it has been saved rather than being developed for housing. No point the Club paying over the odds although I am sure the CMC would have made a better job of the refurbishment. The one disappointment for me, and I daresay other motorhomers, is that Braithwaite Fold is well located for leaving the unit on site.
