Honda CR-V and a bailey
Hello
We are thinking about buying a Honda CR-V 2015 2.2 diesel (not sure automatic or manual) to tow a 2006 Bailey series 5 provonce caravan.
The salesman suggested that buying an automatic car would bring down the weight limit to tow.
I have been on the car and caravan match but the 2.2 diesel are not listed. How would I find out if bothe the automatic and manual variants are able to tow my caravan.
thank you

You could try either of these. Generally viewed as being better than the caravan club matching service.

I think the sales person is correct. We bought an CRV (older model) about 6 years ago as our tug. I ideally wanted an auto, but it became a bit light for our van.
I will say though we've had no issues with the CRV. Been a brilliant car. We've done 100k miles in it and it is still as good as new.

We had a 2013 2.2 6 speed manual excellent tow car, we need to change to an automatic so tried the 2.2 5 speed automatic, absolutely hated that old fashion automatic gearbox it was dreadful, on the 1.6 they changed the automatic to a modern 9 speed unit.
We ended up buying a new Ford Kuga with the Powershift 6 speed transmission.

That got me remembering "pre-selector" gearboxes. Quite widely used on busses at one time.

Hi I have a 2008 2.2 ex manual and it tows. my coachman 530/4 with a 1530kg max and is a 84 % match. It is a very good tow car. I have just put the same car & caravan but a auto in a match and came out that it cannot tow my van 60kg short and is a 80% match . Towing limit for the manual 2000kg and 1500kg for the auto
