Don't know what the hospitality industry are saying in general but thankfully our local pubs are open as usual and we will be off for lunch shortly

Actually, notwithstanding JVB's "disjointed English" I think the meaning is crystal clear!
Our niece who is a paediatric specialist in a large hospital has told us that staff in all specialities, including herself, are being retrained and switched to dealing with the current crisis. And that ambulance crews, along with other emergency services are stretched to breaking point. In those circumstances I find it staggering that folk are ignoring advice (and currently that's all it is) to avoid non essential travel. Totally irresponsible (IMHO).

I'm in complete agreement.
I have a nephew who is a Doctor, and his advice is clear. Protect yourself, and protect others. To do otherwise is grossly selfish and irresponsible.
Me? I'm making Butternut Squash Soup, Chilli and Flemish Stew.
Bring a bottle of red if you want some

Yes - listen to what the official advice is and have a bit of thought for others - don't travel unless absolutely essential!
(I'm well aware of your views, Alan, and have kept away from the rather pointless long running discourse on the other thread, just giving my own view here.)

Look Folks its perfectly bloody obvious that this virus is moving faster than the written or forum word. If a fire is coming towards you do you really need to be told to move out of its path ?
My motorhome is staying on the Driveway until this virus has burnt itself out. Hopefully sooner rather than later...disappointing but necessary.
Please stop bickering over trivialities its boring.

I have this morning spoken to one of the officers of a local group of the Camping and Caravan Club and have been advised that their club has made the decision to close all of their club sites for now. But as yet that information is not on their website. I suspect that CAMC will now do the same.

So you are taking Stanley Johnson's advice rather than Boris Johnson's? (FWIW, I can't stand either of them.) Is that because:
- you believe this crisis is a hoax?
- you don't fall into the 'at risk' category so it's business as usual?
- you think you are immune?
- you're not that worried about contracting the virus and/or passing it on to others that ARE at risk?
- you haven't been keeping abreast of the news?
- you feel sorry for the hospitality industry and its employees (as we all very much do).

no need to gloat , not sure it is worth the £54 right now, if we are all going to be stuck at home for the next 12 months, might just give it a miss, after all, never use club sites often, magazine is now more like an advertising brochure, can still gain access to most of the club web site, would only really miss the special offers , which you can normally purchase on ebay any way, perhaps the club would consider a membership holiday for 12 months

My point entirely. How do you think Spain got into the state it’s in now, more widespread, more deaths. It is logical if you are a selfish B, all about one’s self and devil look after anyone else. This is why Spain is in lock down. It’ll happen here, it probably is happening here, but it’s whether we have the resources to control it like the Spaniards. Our country is hoping the “calm, rational British approach” will get us through........good luck with that one!

Perhaps Camelot Gardener as assessed the risk in the light of advice and considered it to be small and less than standing in a queue in his local chippie.
We have forgone our weekly (chef's night off) lunch this week but do not really feel that it is a logical decision to have done so at the venue that we would have used. The risks would have been small and able to be mitigated further

Sorry to disagree, but it doesn’t take much intelligence to check out various locations, and see how the case situation is, and think, it’s better there, than here. (Think London moving to Wales) The unselfish bit is to think deeper and ask if moving might make the overall situation much, much worse. It’s how the Black Plague spread, people ran away from it from place to place, sadly and mostly unknown, taking it with them. It took years to spread in the 1400’s, this has taken weeks, mainly because it’s so easy to travel around the World nowadays. The truly unselfish bit is to individually take responsibility for one’s own health, keep one’s family as safe as possible and finally think of the repercussions for others
”Me, mine, everyone else.”

So you don’t think that person A (infected, might or might not know it) travelling to Area B (no reports of infection) might not pose a risk then?
The Government clearly does, hence we are at the advice stage of stay at home. Once enough “I can ignore that, it’s not for me” types ramp up the risks, then we move along, kicking and screaming to lockdown

I understood that JV, keep it up👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
