I have just read the details for my insurance as it is due at the end of this month and to be honest I don't see what the problem is! It doesn't appear to be any different to the other years and I still have a NCD. What am I missing? Please enlighten me as I am due to pay this very shortly!

The change to we may pay was a legal requirement. And of course saying we will pay is misleading anyway, as two posters on here have found out when trying to claim on their non club insurance. While three has posted to say their claim was paid in full.

Maybe the CMC representative David Smith might come back with more info before then.

For me the issue is as to whether in normal situations the FOS will act regarding disputes between CMC and those taking the cover. David has said that he will consult with them

Its all a bit academic but it rather depends on the trust you have in the organization as to whether you renew

this is probably the most poignant sentence of the whole post,

i dont think there is an insurance company out there that has terms and conditions that dont give them the sole right to refuse payment, some for the most trivial of conditions. e.g. i saw a news headline only this week where there is a possibility that if you install a sat nav in your car you could negate your insurance as it constitutes a  change to the vehicle, work that one out.

    correction to that:

their club claim was paid in full.

Different strokes eh🤷🏻‍♂️, I’ve just got 5% reduction for actually having a satnav. It does swing both ways as I must prove(in the event of a collision) I was not at fault or some such mitigating circumstance👍🏻. Fancy words to say-if you don’t use the satnav then we have you. I never leave without it so jobs a gud un.

you need to swat up on your english, poignant can be used to describe many emotions

    quote

    Synonyms & Antonyms for poignant
    Synonyms

    affecting,
    emotional,
    impactful,
    impressive,
    moving,
    stirring,
    touching

you can chose which one you would like to think i was referencing

As for the rest of your post if you believe that SatNav story you will believe anything

dont recall that i said that i believed it, was just stating what i had read, and as i have had very close contact with someone who was an insurance broker for many many years, i have listened to many differing cases of woe when it comes to insurance companies refusing payment.

indeed, go for that says will pay and then doesn't (as been twice reported on here) I'm sure that makes all the difference than one that says may pay and then does (as been three times reported on here).

Sorry where am I offering advice David to anyone else? Just re-post that part in this thread where I have? And I don't think anyone else is either, just writing what they believe just like yourself.

I am merely reporting back on the posts made on here regarding when claims have been paid out and when they have not. And so far the club has paid out every time while non club insurance has not. This idea of will pay is misleading. The club is being more honest, and it appears doing a better job anyway.

I have just related what has been posted and its up to others to decide for themselves

Just got more sense than to pay £540 to an organisation that says it may pay

Must be some caravan you have. Either that or you have a bad claims record

It could also be that his claims record is better than his typing skills?

We've noted the information the Financial Ombudsman Service has given to EasyT and will be following this up with them.

How did the follow up go David? I am interested as I would consider using the CMC come December if there is more info.

have used Peacock insurance for several years and very much cheaper than others last year with good cover. worth trying others but obviously always depends on own circumstances. we only go UK and store at home, these sort of things can make big differences to any insurance.

I must be alone in my opinion that the club is simply exploiting a loophole to avoid paying the tax, and its competetors do pay the tax.

The club must make a massive profit from this dodge

75 pages of non expert opinion and I’m still happy with my choice of using the club.  Don’t believe the club is doing anything against the law

But the club, or any insurance company, doesn't pay any tax at all, the person buying insurance does, the club or whoever would simply collect the tax from someone buying insurance and passes it on to the government so how can it make any profit like you suggest?

Also regarding your loophole  it was stated that an official audit had been carried out and HMRC were fully aware of how the club operates,  and anyway it is available to competitors if they so wish to do the same thing.
