After flood damage our caravan will be a total loss. We have new for old cover, but our van model is not made anymore. Does anyone have experience with a new for old claim. How do we make sure we get the replacement van we want?

Sorry to hear of your loss JF. It might be a good idea to scrutinise (very carefully) the T&C's of your policy. There's also the Club's legal team which may be able to help you.

If you have your sum insured set at the figure it would cost you to replace your caravan with either the same model or one that can be considered similar then you would expect to receive that sum insured or the insurer may choose to replace the caravan themselves if they can negotiate a discount. It does really depend on their terms and conditions. In addition if the caravan is an economic write off, that meaning that the cost of repairing it would have been less than 60%  of the cost of a new caravan but can't be repaired because they don't make that model anymore then you will receive a reduced amount. Again it depends on the insurers exact terms.

I had a write off earlier this year just as Lunar went into CVA. The caravan could have been repaired if they hadn't so I got market value, which as it was only 20 months old wasn't too far off what I paid for it.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Hope the claim goes ok for you.
