Hi

We are booked in to Black Knowl at Easter, does it have any access to the fields behind? We would love to walk across to Lymington River and the Hotel?

Thank you.

Not sure why this has appeared as the latest post.🤔

    Anyway to answer.

Access is through the main entrance gate and onto the Heath. There is no access into the fields. On the Heath you are asked to stick to the tracks to protect ground nesting birds.

You leave the site via the entrance drive and take a right turn alongside the path (Ober water on your left) carry on to the end where the waters meet and take the right hand path along the Lymington River. You are walking around open heathland, you can walk over it too but cattle and ponies etc will be grazing and it can get soggy in wet weather so the paths are easier. Take a look at New Forest walks around Brockenhurst. smile (I presume you are looking for a route to the Balmer Lawn Hotel?)

Go out the front gate, follow the path to the right, look for the turning right, this takes you on a direct route into Brockenhurst, go through the village and go left you will end up where you want to be, by far the easiest route, going across the open land can be very wet, so be aware best to stick to the path. Pretty sure there is a map in the site room.

We were there last December and had local horses getting onto site at the top on right hand side of site when looking from reception and whilst there some workers were putting in new fencing around 8 feet high all up that side of the site and a lot of the fields were having new fencing across the fields to make them into smaller fields, chatting to the relief staff they said the new fencing not just for keeping the horses and deer out of the site but to keep site folk on the site and not to go into the fields, the owners want their privacy.  Also noted that the house on the first corner of the road has had a complete make over it is huge now a lot of money been spent, shame the road could do with some more work on it.

Enjoy your Easter break Lindylou 22.

As many folks have said you can walk across the heath down in to Brockenhurst. I'd say it's about 45 minutes by following the path but it's a very easy walk. You can walk to the Forest Park Hotel along the road and I'd say that was about 30 minutes. Sounds obvious but if you are coming back in the dark then take a torch...even if you are walking back along the road.

You can also walk up in to Lyndhurst which is about 1hr30minutes. It's a lovely walk up through the forest. You can divert to a lovely pub called The Oak Inn in Bank first and then it's about 20 minutes along the road in to Lyndhurst. We usually walk to Lyndhurst and then get the bus back as it's hourly and the dog has ran herself ragged in the forest by then !!!!!

I remember a few years back we cycled from Setthornes over passed the Black knowl approach to the Oak inn going passed that bridge with all the kids playing in the river, had a great lunch a couple of pints then back, one of the best rides Ive done,to be fair we do have E bykes and that's with the little fella in his trailer, unforgettable day..
