Lunar Warranties - Just who is responsible?
I have read with interest earlier discussions on this subject.
Can anyone give me guidance please?
I purchased a used Lunar Clubman in March 2017. The van being first registered in January 2016.
The Dealer was not the original Supplying Dealer but sold the vehicle with the balance of the manufacturer's warranty + their own 12 month warranty. I paid for the vehicle by P/EX + £1800.00 on a Mastercard.
I contacted Lunar at the time and they confirmed in writing that their warranty had been transferred to me and expired in January 2022 conditional on annual servicing being undertaken at an approved Service Centre. I have complied with this condition.
I now understand that Lunar being under new ownership are not honouring warranties on vans over 3 years old.
Last week, after a sustained period of heavy rain, as part of this years habitation check, water ingress was discovered leading to high moisture readings.
My dilemma is, do I attempt a DIY investigation and try and cure the problem OR if I take it to a professional repairer will I have any redress against either Lunar, My Supplying Dealer,or the Credit Card Company.
Any Advice both Legal and as importantly Practical would be most welcome.
Thank you

Give the club's legal dept a ring and see what advice they can offer, Ian.

IMO you do not have a claim against Lunar as it is a separate legal entity to the one that originally supplied the warranty.
You purchased the caravan from your current dealer and they are the ones who should pick up any warranty work, again this is only my opinion, as the law states that the first line of any complaint etc. is always against the retailer or supplier. If the dealer doesn't wish to get involved then you would be entitled to ask your MasterCard, I assume it's a Credit Card, to get involved on a section 75 as they may be held jointly or severally liable.
As TW has advised it may help you to speak to the clubs legal department, failing that to your own Legal Experts if you have Legal Expenses Insurance with your caravan insurer.
Good luck.

Thank you all for your interest and replies.
Before investigating the legal options I have undertaken a closer examination of the problem.
The damp appears to originate in the area behind the fridge and continue along the floor/ side panel line towards the rear of the van.
Although there is no sign of water ponding, it is possible that water is entering through the fridge vents and flowing towards the rear of the van. This would be consistent with the fact that the van is parked slightly off level to encourage roof water to drain more efficiently.
The moisture readings were taken after a period of high wind driven rain which would tally with this theory.
WHEN it stops raining I intend to undertake a hosepipe test. In the meantime I will attempt to dry out the van, and mask off the vents completely and monitor the situation.
I understand that there are vent shields available if this turns out to be the problem.
Has anyone else had similar symptoms and were they treated successfully?

Hopefully your problem is due to wind driven rain. Depending on type of fridge you might struggle to get winter covers. Whilst topic drifting i noted Lunar are not showing at the NEC this week. I thought it would have been a good opportunity for the new owners.

Hi Ian. I had the exact same in a 2014 Lunar quasar 554. Take off the fridge vents and you will probably find about an inch or so where there is no sealant. biggest problem is it soaks its way all through thw wallpaper. Hope this helps. My mobile engineer went straight to the cause as it was a common problem.
The hardest thing is renewng the wallpaper.

We had a major damp problem with our Lunar (2014 Quasar 546) which we had fixed under the warranty before the buy out, now two years later just serviced and guess what, damp again !!! Not happy obviously but our problem is not warranty as that is out now but how to get parts to fix it again ! Our engineer is playing a waiting game as he cannot get any response from new Lunar at this time. Can't wait to get this fixed and be rid of it !
