Flooding
we are at Tredegar house this week , and like everyone had a lot of wind and rain ,
site has held out brilliantly , no problem at all with the rain , the Tredegar country house grounds though have suffered flooding in some areas , is anyone touring who has been caught out with this awful weather and have gone home early ?

Yorkshire is a tad damp at the moment, you pick your routes with care. We had a lovely few days at YRPark in January, but it’s well under water (again) at the moment. Currently monitoring the Ilkley, Otley, Skipton, Dales area as we have a cottage holiday booked next month. Cottage should be all right, but we might need ferry tickets for part of the route😱
Seriously though, it’s dreadful seeing what some folks are enduring. Our area was flooded before Christmas, but with a few exceptions, we seem to have got away light at the moment.

just back from a long weekend in a place called Low Hutton (sisters place) travelled home to Stubbington yesterday, so glad i had not taken the caravan, very wet and windy for parts of the journey, did see some brave souls towing, some looked to be doing not more than 40mph (sensible), River Ouse did not look good and local news said that York council were taking additional measures to try to ensure city centre was not flooded again. Not for me, caravan parked up firmly at home, more rain and gales forecast.

That’s some picture DK. We walked in the park every day when we were there early January. You had to stay on the hard paths then because there were flood pools on the grass and it was extremely boggy. I wonder how the new hotel is faring. They were just finishing off the landscaping during our visit☹️
I am wondering if Tewkesbury site is flooded. I can’t recall if it opens all year, so that might be why there’s no warning on the webpage at the moment. Flood report for area indicates Gander Lane is flooded, so who knows🤷♂️

We're keeping a close eye on that area Ttda as we're headed for a cottage on Saturday for a week, near Otley and intend(ed) to call off in Skipton en route for a bite to eat, plus Mrs WN wants to call in at the Art Shop there. If you do hear any local news then please post will you. Thanks. (Or ask NTH for our email address).

Will do WN. It’s showing all clear now, the water has moved down into Ouse, but there were issues at the weekend. The Wharfe runs alongside the main road around Otley, Ilkley, so does flood. This is website I use, updated regularly. Hope you have a nice time😁

its a rather nice day here now, fingers crossed everyone gets some respite.

Cheers.
Taking MiL so I'll be going for lots of walks whilst MiL and Mrs WN do lots of shopping and drinking tea in places like Betty's.
Will let you know what cottage is like as I know you need more or less the same sort of outlay for a cottage as we do.

Oh yes! Sounds good. OH is taking his bike, while I do the dog chariot duties and little Sis does the Mum care bit! We take two cars with us, as it’s not far from home, and then if we want to we can go in different directions. Luckily one is our big Jeep, so we shall be ok in all but the deepest of snow. We are going to Seat House Farm, a lovely Farm CL that also has a very nice cottage. Just outside Skipton in scenic countryside. Watching the weather though!😁

We've now been away for a month and have been fortunate being in areas where the storms haven't really affected us, although we did stay an extra night at Kings Lynn so as we weren't towing in the very high winds on the Sunday of Storm Ciara.
Hope that you are able to get to your cottage on Saturday, WM

Yes, I bet it was closed to visitors. Good news that it has coped though, it looked as though I had been built to withstand such floods, shame about the new landscaping. Going to be a while before it recedes and all cleaned up.

Found this aerial shot of Tewkesbury, taken a day ago. The caravan site is in the top right hand corner. You can clearly see the toilet block and the service pitches surrounding it. At least those that are not underwater, a fair section of the site is submerged.

Just back from a stay at The Woods that included both storms. No problem with flooding on site but could watch the daily changes on the flood plain, most of which has not been built upon.
The wind gusts however was another matter - not many trees in this particular "wood" and the service pitches are very exposed. Strength was way beyond the design speed for the roof vents which were flapping even when fully clamped shut. Had to put a couple of well filled clothes hangers under one of them to stop it lifting.

Had the same photo just sent to me from a friend in the area, do not think the site will open on 6th March as there will be quite a lot of groundwork to do. Awful pictures of Upton-upon-Severn as well our old area where we used to live and have never seen it that bad.

Oh dear, and it goes on up here. Skipton, Aire Valley, emergency services getting folks out this morning.☹️ Anyone travelling in and around Dales, check flooding website. If it’s in the Aire today........Will be heading towards York. 😥

We came via Skipton today! The A59 around the town was still open but lots of water in the adjoining fields and the town itself was fine. Didn't get down to the river area but plenty of folk in and around town, where we stopped for a bite to eat.
We did have to avoid Otley as the lower area was flooded last night. Now safely ensconced on the hill looking over the flooded meadows below.
The owner of the cottage we are staying at says he's not seen the meadows like that in the 20 years he's been here.

Oh WN, what can I say. I couldn’t text Nellie to pass it on. Glad you got there. So pleased you got through. We are watching things avidly, our cottage is up past Eshton, which is through Gargrave. Little Sis says it might be a two jigsaw holiday, rather than one!😂Hope things get better for you. Enjoy your break. Ask Nellie for my email. 👍

Cheers Ttda. We have water wings and large rubber duck inflatable so should be fine!
MiL and Mrs WN want to get to RHS Harlow Carr as they also have an embroidery exhibition on so we'll do that on one of the drier days. Quite a while since MiL been to Fountains Abbey so we'll take that in as well.
We feel a tad guilty as we'll be away for her birthday and mothers day so doing things this week that she wants.
Good luck with yours.
Will write to NTH.

Hope you manage to get to Seat House, Tda and have a good time. When are you heading that way? I'll certainly pass on your email address to WN.
WN, glad to hear that you made it though eventually without mishap. Have seen the state of the flooding from the Wharfe on another forum!!!
