Sites with beach access

Evening...

Looking for quieter sites with pretty much direct access to a beach...short walk or similar. Don't want to be packing up the car each day. Also helps just to pop down for a beach walk and ice cream. Family of 5. 3 kids under 5. Many thanks.

Dunnet Bay, North Ledaig, New England Bay, Brora - all club sites in Scotland.

What area are you thinking of?

The only club site near a beach I can think of in Devon/Cornwall is Godrevy Park and you need to be fairly fit to cope as the cliffs aren’t easy if you have any mobility impairment.

There are numerous privately owned sites dotted around the coast but I’m not really the best person to advise as I live here and don’t use local sites much.

This commercial site is walkable to the beach. We have stayed there  in low season  and found it  of a good standard and location.

Agree with Tinwheeler, Godrevy Park is your best bet Club wise for Cornwall. Closer to the same beach, there is a nice CL called Churchtown Farm, easy stroll to beach, however it doesn’t have showers. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/certificated-locations/england/cornwall/hayle/churchtown-farm/

I think you might have to look at non Club Sites to get anything right next to beach with showers in Cornwall. Even a lot of the CLs are on cliff type coastline, or set back slightly inland. Sorry, I don’t know Devon as well.

It gets horrendously busy there in peak season as do many places in Cornwall, especially in the Newquay area.

Personally, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near Newquay. The beaches are great, but the town itself leaves a lot to be desired. There are far far nicer places to stay in Cornwall.

Pentewan Sands is right on the beach in Cornwall - but is far from being a small CL .There are over a hundred reviews on UKcampsite.co.uk if you want to see opinions about it.

Hi, depending on when you come down there may be club rallies on at Pentewan. Worth checking in the “what’s on” section or maybe give the site a call.

It's not Cornwall or Devon but maybe suitable as it's a short stroll from site onto beach, it's a quiet site as no 'clubroom'.  Seadown in Charmouth  https://www.seadownholidaypark.co.uk/index.html

We stayed at Wood Farm at the top end of Charmouth, a good few years ago. We went down to the beach a couple of times and it struck me that it had a very peaceful and relaxed atmosphere, not overcrowded at all. Good suggestion 👍

Behind Pentewan Sands is a site called >Little Winnick,< a much nicer site than Pentewan in my view but further to walk to the beach along a woodland walk from the back of the site. There is also a bus stop right outside for busses to St Austel or Mevagissey.

Have you not thought of Tenby, freshwater east direct access for the beach, the beaches are better just google barafundle bay, l know its a short drive to it, and pleasant walk over the cliff path but the bay is second to none Fresh water east site has just had an upgrade, you wont be disappointed l will guarantee it

Another one for South West Wales, why not consider Pembrey Country Park CMC site. Direct access to beautiful Cefn Sidan sands, 7 miles of glorious sands and dunes. Plenty of activities in the park for the children including a miniature steam railway.. Access to the Country Park free on foot or bike.

Freshwater East in Pembrokeshire also direct access to beach, highly recommended. Weather just as good ,if not better than Cornwall, and an easier journey than down to the South West from the midlands.

    Graham and Becky,

With respect to Freddy 55, this is not a site from which you could just "pop down" to the beach, especially with three children under 5.

Check where it is and you will see that you really would need to drive to the beach with the children. I don't think any of you would relish the walk back up the hill, especially if loaded with beach equipment. (It is 1.2 miles from site to beach, across the busy A road and down quite a steep hill!)

The North Devon campsites around Woolacombe Bay and Mortehoe etc have always been popular with our family for easy beach access. smile

Also the Seatown site at Chideock in Dorset, minutes from the beach, fossil collecting and the old Anchor Inn overlooking the sea. There are two CLs nearby too. smile

Damage Barton site is just above the fantastic Woolacombe beach - you'd need to drive down though unless you're really fit! Slapton Sands, near Dartmouth has a great beach and Blackpool sands nearby - again a car would be useful. We stayed at a non- CMC site near Hayle (Beachside)a few year's ago to visit my cousin, the beach was a short walk away. Godrevy Park (CMC) is in  beachside position, not been but it looks nice on the website.

Aren't Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands beaches actually shingle?

Slapton is shingle and steeply shelving but there are lifeguards near the Slapton village end in the summer. Blackpool Sands are shingle too (Blue Flag, no dogs allowed) and both charge for parking. Blackpool Sands has better facilities, the loos are still missing from the Slapton bit but there are some in Torcross.

Ruda at Croyde in north Devon.

Often good deals at Easter and end of school holidays if you time it right.

If you are feeling flush, Tristram Camping Park, Polzeath.

    as above check out ukcampsites.co.uk

"Godrevy Park (CMC) is in beachside position, not been but it looks nice on the website."

No, it’s not actually beside the beach which is the reason I didn’t mention it earlier. You have to exit the site, cross the road, walk across the towans and climb down the cliff either by using steep steps or walking a fair way to the car park and using the path. It’s not a walk for the faint hearted or for young children in my opinion. Gwithian is the closest beach and Godrevy is further along (the site is misnamed, I think) and both are great beaches.

I think Freddy 55 was referring to my suggestion of Seadown in Charmouth  as being quiet and not overcrowded as he quotes my suggestion in his reply regarding being on his way to the beach from Wood Farm. Which indeed is rather to far for a stroll to the beach with a family.

Given the abundance of coast around Cornwall this is surprisingly hard tbh...

    - Godrevy is walkable out of the back gate but not sure for 3 under 5s.  The private sites up the road in Gwithian may be a safer bet. Drive to beach is easy from Gwithian though. NT card useful for NT car park. There are also a couple of private sites nearer Hayle near to the beaches but not sure what they're like. There's a big Haven site and pub overlooking the beach there.

    -  Ayr holiday Park in St ives but very hard to get on in peak season (private)

    - Marazion Dove meadows. Walk to beach / St michaels Mount and pubs / chippy, (private and not large)

    - trevedra farm c&cc walkable but maybe not for 3 under 5s

Further north Treyarnon Bay or Porth Beach - both private
