Hi, we are going skiing in a couple of weeks in our weinsberg Cara loft. Last year we bought the big gas bottles from the supermache and a lovely man on the moho park lent me his connector and rigged us up. I need to buy the correct pipe and connector for this year but am struggling to find the right thing to buy.

Can anyone please point us in the right direction

Phone 01509 377377 and speak to the Gaslow people in Loughborough. Tell them what sort of cylinder you intend to buy in France and they will sell you an adaptor to fit.

When i had my Autocruise Sunnindale ,i did the change over at a French hypermarket, with the help of one of their assistants.I changed to 'Le Cube' complete with the regulator, pipework etc purchased from the store..This all came with paperwork and covering certification.

I have use Hamilton Gas quite a bit for hoses and connectors. If you know the name of the cylinder why not do an internet search which should show you the items required?

I have used Hamilton Gas, excellent service and advice, got these to connect a Spanish Repsol bottle to my existing POL fitting and Truma regulator

Not sure if France use the same though

AFAIK, there are two main types of conmector used on French gas bottles...

    1. the 21.8mm LH threaded male nut known as the 'Butane' fitting (cylinder available containing butane or propane)

    2. a 27mm clip on adaptor

the type of fitting depends on the brand of gas bottle

there is a comprehensive MMM thread her bit ot might seem a bit daunting.

essentially, it depends which hose ypu have fitted to your van, our German van came with 'butane' hoses so could screw straight onto some French bottles (but dont fit Calor bottles), yours may be fitted with a UK hose which fits Calor, in which case you will need to first decide which type of french bottle brand you'll be using...see the above linked thread for brands/connectors.

having done that, youll need to convert your uk hose to a 21.8 thread, google 'pol to butane adaptor'....

youll now have a hose like ours and this will allow you to connect to some french bottles...

however, of going for the clip on type, you will need the above adaptor AND then the clip on adaptor which will screw straight into the first adaptor....

sorry if this seems complicated but ALL continental adaptors have the same hose fitting (21.8 mm) and you have to convert your uk hose first (first adaptor) before adding any further bottle connectors...

The UK Gas Light (formerly BP Light)  clip-on connector is compatible with Le Cube French cylinders.

Just had an email back from Antargaz to confirm that their light weight Calyso 10kg bottle uses a 27mm clip on connector.  They show it on their web sites but do not state the size) Gaslow thought it was a 20mm clip on and i have just emailed them the information from Antargaz so they can tell people the correct one

That’s helpful. Antargaz cylinders are widely available in France.

the issue is that the connector thread at the top right of the photo will be a 21.8 mm Left Handed thread which wont fit directly onto a UK 'propane/POL' hose.....std uk fitting for Calor...

youll need this adaptor to convert your hose

    https://gasproducts.co.uk/propane-pol-to-butane-adaptor.html

...and then fit the bottle clip to this.

However, their Calypso 10 kgs are Butane, despite being coloured red.

It will be essential to use Propane for a sking holiday, as hopefully then the weather will be far too cold for butane to gas off adequately.

The same 27 mm clip-on, if you get the vertical take off as opposed to swquat horizontal version of this connecter, also fits the Le Cube. If I recall these are propane but check that out first.

If you buy a 'Le Cube' propane bottle from a supermarket, they will sell you a clip-on adaptor or regulator at the same time.
