Hello

Anybody out in their Caravan or Motorhome with this storm Ciara just wondering how you are coping. Hope you haven't lost anything.

    We were ,but returned before the storm. Very surprised to see a three quarter full site on Friday , some very hardy people out there.

    We're on  CL at the moment. Were due to move today but decided to stay put till tomorrow, as it would appear that the wind will be less strong then.

    Van is rocking a bit at the moment, though!surprised

    just plain crazy, worst storm in a century, 95mph winds and people out on the road in caravans, life boat out at ours to rescue wind surfer, people never learn.

    Far removed from the worst storm of the century here Ruff. Generally 30 mph at its worst here for a short period although I imagine that some coastal areas in particular were hit hard as were others.

    It was far worse after the Michael Fish forecast much more damage

    Overall it is likely to come out as the worst storm this century. Although that does only cover 20 years. Just over 60 mph gusts here for a few hours.

    95mph recorded on the IOW, if i lived in a house I would be able to see the IOW, not saying we got 95mph but it was pretty dam scary, but in my book, if the met office are forecasting 60mph - 75mph then you keep your caravan firmly routed to the ground in one spot, if possible in a very sheltered location. My caravan is parked behind a brick wall that is very solid and i put my car on the otherside of the caravan, to provide added protection to both.

    As I said Steve far removed here. But other areas no doubt copped it. Feel sorry for Mytholmroyd and Hebden Bridge with a repeat of the flooding of 4 or 5 years ago.

    Rowntree Park is closed. That new hotel next door is in for its first flood defence try out. Looks as though Hawes village had a torrid time as well. Hopefully Club Site was ok.

    Brick wallsundecided ,only two came down yesterday here,  with Mr Fish non hurricane  5 walls came down and another four damaged, including ours ,and hundreds of trees toppledsurprised

    Ah! but my brick wall is an integral part of a private garage that forms part of my boundary wall, so unless that whole garage was to collapse then it is very unlikely that the wall will cave in, reading around though i am still amazed at the number of people who were on the move with carvans this weekend, in my book totally unnecessary undecided

    Agree with your last point - I trust that anyone actually towing yesterday had considered that not only were the putting themselves at risk but also other travellers and the emergency services!

    That was because there were leaves on the trees as it was mid October. There would have been a similar amount of damage with Ciara had it too been an Autumn storm instead of a Winter one I'm sure.

    Not at all surprised at Rowntree. Wonder in the CC's Clumber sit is closed as the Park was yesterday. As Carlisle only just escaped flooding this time was the C&CC Keswick site closed, and Possibly Boroughbridge too.

    That's the reasons we stayed put yesterday. There was no way we would have towed in those winds. Much less windy today thankfully, but the storm still had a surprise up it's sleeve as we've had snow this afternoon !!

    But there was still in this area far more structural damage after Mr Fish advised it was not going to happen,  than yesterday, surprised

    Assume “this area” is somewhere in the South of England.

    Never mind the winds / flooding “up North “.

    It’s been really challenging in East Lancs today and yesterday, thoughts and best wishes to those coping with the aftermath of the storm.

    Agreed ... it was a bit of deja vu yesterday at my parents' house .... water was a couple of inches above floor level but fortunately flood barriers installed after 2015 Boxing Day kept water out of the house this time.

    still there but where we had a nice concrete patio it is now pebbles, but all ok water tight door kept the sea out tks laughing

    Thees storms really bring out some people who are IMHO just idiots like these going up Ben Nevis during the storm:

    They said the group who were caught in blizzard conditions had "no ice axes, no crampons and as far as we are aware no maps". Three of them were wearing trainers,

    Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team found them near the summit of the mountain.

    I mean everyone is entitled to do what they wish, and maybe these were aiming for a Darwin award, but that shouldn't include risking other people's lives?

    I've just seen that the Keswick Mountain Rescue team were helping caravans and motor-homes stuck in Keswick at the CCC site(?).

    Storm Ciara caused some very early morning chaos at the caravan park on Crow Park Road in Keswick. An evacuation of the site was commencing when the Police requested support from Keswick MRT. The initial task was clearing a narrow lane with a stalled camper van that was causing a blockage. We were then directed to a flooded area in the park to help people and dogs trapped in vehicles. During this time it was noticeable how the depth and strength of the flood water was increasing. Everyone was helped to safer areas but unfortunately some vehicles had to be abandoned.  http://keswickmrt.org.uk/rescue/keswick-8/

    The three people rescued from Ben Nevis were from overseas, tourists. Admitted they had made a huge mistake, apologised profusely and made a donation to Mountain Rescue, along with some personal thank you gifts. I think I must be easy for some who don’t know Scotland to vastly underestimate how dangerous and challenging conditions can be. The surfer on the other hand...........

    The Ben Nevis rescue pinpointed finding them via the Whatthreewords app. At least they knew about this, and had a mobile with them.

    Bad news for those in Keswick. We have Storm Dennis to look forward to this coming weekend. I blame Trump.😁
