Lake District
Hi
I want to go to the lakes for the first time in my motorhome.
I tend to leave the van on site for the length of our stay.
Is this possible with good buss routes etc or will I need to use the van for touring around.
Any recommendations for the sites to stop on.
Thanks Paul

Keswick is the biggest, busiest and most bus centred base - those buses will get you to some places but not all by any means - timetables are available on line and from the tourist office. Take boots as well. Cheers.

Also you can get a day rider ticket that will let you travel in a certain area or even the whole of the lakes for a set price. There are day/three day and even weekly tickets.
The most 'famous' bus route is the 555 which will get you from Keswick all the way to Windermere (and back of course). There are some open top scenic buses too which are good fun, and smaller 'rambler' buses like the Keswick to Buttermere to Whinlatter to Keswick circuit for example.
See here for details and prices.
There is also the Mountain Goat company which has set tours in their minibuses.
Post edit - sorry Brue didn't see you had already posted about Mountain Goat.

The three sites around Derwentwater are good bases for anyone with a motorhome, the two C&CC sites in Keswick and the CAMC Borrowdale site. All have good bus connections, a favourite is the route via Buttermere and the Honister Pass, this bus can be caught at the Borrowdale site and there are ferry connections. If the Braithwaite Fold caravan site re-opens in Bowness on Windermere this is another site which has good access to buses and ferries. All the sites are very popular, particularly Keswick, so book early.
The site at Coniston also has bus connections.
edit here's some info about Keswick buses. LINK

If you like Cl sites we can recommend the one in Hawkshead (Keen ground farm), There are some relatively easy walks from the site to Tarn Hows and Wray Castle (NT), and we took a bus down to Beatrix Potter's house and walked back through the woods above Lake Windermere. Hawkshead has a bus station where you can get buses to Ambleside and Coniston, and the village has some nice pubs, cafes and shops.
