The lightweight calor ones are scarce I believe and full with 6kg gas weigh 1.5kg. The 6kg calor weighs 13kg. I have arthritis in spine and shoulder and choose to use the 3.9kg bottle which is under 10kg and nearly 6'' shorter than the 6kg meaning it is easier to handle. The cut out in the front of the gas locker is designed for the 6kg Calor I use a length of the closed cell pipe insulation around the bottom of the cut out plastic well to make sure that they ride in the centre although not really necessary.
I think that empirically I found that about half the weight of a gas bottle reacts on the hitch from memory. So two 6kg bottles applies about 13kg to the hitch and two 3.9kg applies 10kg. Not much saving. I think that there is a lightweight. I don't think that I know of any lighter other than safefill 5kg at 8.5kg. But to buy empty nearly £160 each. I use 6 kg a year over 130+ nights so for me the 3.9kg.

I should have said 11.5kg! Mistype!
I think that there is a lightweight.
I was thinking of gaslight from flogas who do a 5kg gas lightweight but doubt that it is much lighter (if at all) than the 3.9 Calor. Since many sites stock a Calor refill I will stick with that.

Calorlites are being discontinued and will become increasingly difficult to obtain. Whilst you could pay for a Flogas lightweight, the initial cost, like Calor rentals will go a substantial way to the cost of a refillable Safefill, equally lightweight and with the benefit of a future of buying cheap LPG, which will pay for itself over a reasonably short timescale. It will also enable you to obtain gas whilst abroad, something that neither of the other two options will do.

It depends on your gas usage and particularly so with a caravan as opposed to a motorhome. It would take me around 1,000 nights with the inconvenience of going off site to refill that will permit refilling refillables. For me that is 8 years with a bottle certified for 10 years. After year 8 I would save around £20 a year. Not worth the effort for me personally

“with the inconvenience of going off site to refill that will permit refilling refillables”
I know! Let’s have LPG pumps on club sites for refilling. 😀

As far as I can see 120 stores have closed since 2015 but I know that there were some before that.
From newspaper article May 2018 - (I think it was the Independent)
Homebase has been sold for £1 after Australian group Wesfarmers said its purchase of the group two years ago had proved “disappointing”. The DIY chain is being sold to restructuring firm Hilco Capital, which previously bought HMV from its administrators in 2013.25 May 2018

Been saying for years, massive calor tanks on club sites so lets start using them to refill. It shouldn't be that expensive to add a specific valve with meter and tap and would recoup cost over a short period of time. Come on clubs get with the times.

Homebase changing ownership even though that came with closing many stores, has released Flo-gas to sell its own ex BP Gaslights via any of the many Flo-gas dealers, those interested in handling it.
That was not the case up till recently but has now made it far more available than before Homebases latest hiccup.
I get mine from a Flo-gas Depot, but a Flo-gas dealer in my village would order me exchanges should I choose.
Look up on Flo-gas website for cylinder dealers, then ring them to see if they will get you Gaslight exchanges.

If traveling in Europe the Antargaz Calypso 10kg is a light weight bottle. It needs a 27mm clip on connection with what we call a butance hose to your regulator

I bought a 7.5 kg Safefill for exactly the same reason as the OP is asking - to save weight in our last van. We don't use a lot of gas so the economics didn't come into the decision but the instant weight saving did. Plus, it doesn't rust. I have a garage that sells LPG close to home so I pop in there a couple of times a year to fill it up and I am pleased with it.

I cannot understand some people, wants a lighter gas bottle to save weight but would just add more rubbish if they had more weight to hand. Lighter bottle to save what 5kg but would through a 30kg motor mover on the van or even air conditioning unit on the roof or a sat dish. Go through everything in the van and you could probably throw out more stuff that you never use and then keep the gas bottle you already have. Simples.
Or just carry the bottle in the car.

That is very true ,when noting what comes out of some LVs when pitching up on sites and that includes the latest upsurge in the motorised versions of caravan?,what amazes me is those caravans with front lockers that are stuffed full of "kit?",many kilo of weight ,when the hitch head has Max 100kg limit,
ps we start to carry our spare 6kg in the car after about 1yr of use of the one in the midships gas locker
