Mayday Chauffeur Service

At the beginning of December we were staying on the Brighton site and I broke my arm and was unable to drive. When I contacted Mayday Green Flag, with a copy of a medical certificate, I was told the distance from Brighton to my home in Clacton On Sea meant I would be taken home by breakdown truck and not a Chauffeur/Driver but, had I been in Scotland I would have been provided with a driver.

After a disastrous trip involving two relays and broken promises we eventually got home after ten hours. We got apologies and some compensation but, were just relieved to be home to take it further.,

We then got a phone call from Green Flag claiming they were investigating the problems we had been through  but, appeared to be a cover up for not supplying a chauffeur/driver. I was told if we had waited another two days we could have had a chauffeur/driver yet at the time of asking for help I was told it was a definite no no.

What is the policy on providing a driver due to the driver being incapacitated, has anyone else been provided with a driver?

I am sorry to hear of your accident. I have no experience of Mayday but an earlier event with another company taught me that it was better to go home by train than in the backseat of a flat bed truck - and leave the breakdown service to recover the vehicle separately.

I am assuming that you have the Extra or Extra Plus cover which provides the chauffeur cover.

I don't have Mayday but as far as I can tell, after checking the cover, there is no exception to the chauffeur cover regarding distance to be travelled. Quite simply you should have been supplied with one and seem to have been treated poorly.

Have you taken the matter up with the Club? I would suggest you contact them.

Teck, I too broke my arm in December when away with our caravan. Fortunately we were able to call on family to act as chauffeur to get us and the van home. We didn't realise at the time that our Greenflag policy covered that service, although I have subsequently f o und that it does, but going by your experience I'm rather glad that we didn't use them.

Hope that your arm is better now and you can get out with your van again.
