I find it hard to take any notice or listen To some one who can not speak without using foul language. I think that you will find that all modern Diesel engines are designed for long runs and not runs like the school run.

I’m glad you clarified that you repulsed by the industrial language. Not because as someone who admits to owning  6 Landrovers that you detest any criticism of the green oval.   The Ingenium engine has by all accounts got major problems.  It’s a shame but it seems it isn’t going to be fixed anytime soon.

For the OP get an Automatic they are just better, particularly when towing.

Obviously old Boff has always wanted a land rover but never realy been in the position to just achieve his goal, so he feels he must vent his displeasure on the lucky chaps that own one, oh well one day Boff

Well after having trouble free motoring with 6 land rovers I don’t see any reason for critisising them. As for the ingenium engine I have not had any problems. My cars are used for long runs as a modern Diesel engine is intended and not for running to the shop. Sorry you don’t like Land Rovers maybe you should try one sometime.

As for the language how can you take any notice of someone who can not string a sentence together without using foul language

Just tell me do JLR make that clear to their customers.   Do they refuse to sell them a vehicle if the don’t qualify?   and perhaps you can show us where they say what the minimum journey distance is in the promotional literature?   Because if you can’t you are victim blaming.

On a lighter note I did see a transporter with what I think were new defenders looked better in the flesh than in pictures.  Btw I don’t own a 4x4.

I did say all modern Diesel engines. I have never heard of any vehicle manufacturer saying they are only intended for long runs, plus no salesman of any make will refuse to sell you one not just JLR.  I think it is a well know fact about modern Diesel engines. They all have a DPF which gets clogged up with short journeys. If you clog it up to much then you get engine problems.

Yes you did say all Diesel engines but I did say the ingenium engine had problems.   Particularly oil dilution.  You can’t tell when a Dpf filter regen is going to occur.  My car was trying to do one last night after a 4 mile journey.   The day before I had done a 380 mile round trip.  If you choose to buy a vehicle based solely on the cachet of its badge then that’s your choice and nothing to do with me.

I think all new petrol cars have to have a PPF fitted and could cause the same issues in the future.

Maybe, like me if we did not have a small petrol runabout, he might be using his tow car for short local runs to local shops for 8 months of the year. Would you still suggest he 'try' one?

Does that mean that you only use your caravan for 4 months of the year. In that case I would say buy an old banger like an old x trail. I once had one of those not a bad tow car and if old enough no DPF filter.
