Lunar Warranties
When Lunar went into liquidation last year I was still waiting for approved warrantee work to be done (for water ingress, covered by 6 year warrantee, my van having been purchased in 2014).
My understanding was that the ultimate responsibility for doing the warrantee repairs lies with the supplying dealer. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not?

I would expect the dealer to resist and I would not think him necessarily responsible to do the repairs unless you can show that there was an issue dating back to the point of sale. What is the nature of the repairs? Personally I would discuss with dealer and take it from there seeking legal advice if you feel necessary to exolore

Contact the Clubs legal department you`ll get no end of answers on a forum. My one thought is the warranty is provided by Lunar not specifically the dealer, unless in the case of a second hand van where the manufacturers warranty has expired, and a dealer provides a limited time warranty. Lunar have as far as I understand it agreed to honour warranties where the dealer becomes a Lunar Automotive dealer.

My lunar clubman was purchased new from my local dealer in May 2018. In October 2018 I reported a number of 'snags' including a sticking blind in the rear washroom roof plus the alloy wheels both had 'crazing' on the polished parts of the wheels. My dealer said they would look at them a first service.
So in May 19 I took the caravan in. They sorted all the snags except the blind and the wheels which had to be referred to lunar for approval. I heard nothing. In August 19 I took the caravan in for replacement brake shoes under warranty. These were done and in the course of talking to staff I was told that Lunar were going into administration but not to worry as my dealer would refer the defects to the blind and wheel manufacturer.
I hear nothing so in Dec 19 I enquired with my dealer. They said Lunar had indeed gone into administration and all warranty work would not be undertaken by the 'new' Lunar. They said the crazing was due to 'wear and tear' and when I dug deeper I learnt that Lunar had rejected the claim for the wheels back in May after the first service. I asked why no-one had bothered to tell me that at the time so I could have a chance to fight the rejection which was ridiculous anyway. How can crazing to the wheels be down to wear and tear when previous caravans ive owned have gone years with no problem.
Ref the blind my dealer says they will do their best to help me and they will cover water and other structural failings up to the caravans 3rd anniversary of purchase, provided of course they do the servicing in between.
All in all I feel very disheartened with my dealers stance on this and after the 3rd anniversary I wont ever be using them again. No one from the dealership had the courtesy to inform their customers about Lunar going into administration nor the consequences for warranty work.
A long story I know and I will take this to the CMC legal people but I just wondered if I am alone with this sort o experience?

“Dear Customer,
In August 2019, Lunar Automotive was formed to continue the manufacture of Lunar products to ensure that a brand that has been in existence for 50 years remains in the touring caravan market. The new owners are fully committed to ensuring our brand and products remain a strong choice for the caravanning public.
We are also very aware of the discomfort that many existing Lunar owners may be experiencing, specifically regarding any warranty provision.
Following extensive discussions and review of terms and conditions, Lunar Automotive Ltd have made the decision that, as a gesture of goodwill, they will endeavor to support claims for caravans sold by the previous company, Lunar Caravans Ltd. Please note this cover commences as from the original date of purchase and extends to models manufactured within the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons only. The caravans must be register with a full-service history to enjoy this warranty. Full Terms and Conditions will follow shortly.
For a claim to be submitted, your caravan will need to be assessed by your supplying dealer who will have to be a continuing Lunar Automotive dealer. Please speak to your dealer to check their current status.
We are aiming to restart production of caravans and parts as soon as possible but there will be a short term impact on deliveries following orders being submitted, meaning parts may not be readily available to dispatch straight away, further updates will be provided to the dealer network as soon as possible.
The new owners of Lunar Automotive would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience during this period, we do recognise that this has been a distressing time for all involved, but we can all now move forwards to a bright and successful future together.
Best Regards

Hmm interesting reading that thank you. So my dealer tells me they are no longer a Lunar Automotive dealer so I am left feeling even more disillusioned with my dealer. How convenient for them to step back and wash their hands of what I would have thought was at least a moral responsibility to support their so called valuable customers!
If my car's wheels had gone the way my caravan wheels have after just 6 months they would have been replaced on the spot. None of this 'wear and tear' rubbish I've been quoted. They must think we're idiots.

Your redress should be against the dealer if Lunar can't cover you. Did you pay any part of your purchase with a credit card, specifically more than £100? If so contact them for redress under a section 75. Google it.
I would suggest you may need independent report on your crazing problem to help your claim.

SteveM - are there any markings on the reverse of the alloys to indicate a manufacturer? Perhaps they might be more helpful.
