Bridport Bingham Grange

I have taken a look at various reviews, different review sites. To be honest, the overall impression appears to be positive, both before and after take over. Most of the negativity seems to be from Members who are used to Club Sites being very similar in terms of type of layout, facilities etc.... Can understand comments from those who like the Club Site model, but it seems rather nice to me to have another site that’s a bit different. We wouldn’t be bothered by cafe not open, or facilities block as neither are priorities for us. I do like the idea of little hedges, our favourite CL has these!😁
Depending on location and price, it might be a good touring stopover for us.
Not sure what the Club model is for onsite eateries? In-house or franchised? 🤷♀️

Although not 'locals' as such, we stayed at a CL in Burton Bradstock nr Bridport last summer and cycled over to the site to check it out...
we thought it was great, typical of all things not club....no long one way circuit, irregular shaped hedged pitches, lovely old 'clubhouse' buildings, river walk etc.
of course, little of this 'originality' will remain when the club has dug it up and turned it into a clone of many others...
im sure many 'regulars' would miss the use of the restaurant, but this doesnt fit 'how the club does it' so i guess that has to go.
yes, the road is busy, especially on a bike, and its a good stroll cross country into Bridport...however, we would still have liked to try it but ill wait for further updates as we have a CL at BB we can always use.

Hi everyone,
The Club purchased Bridport Bingham Grange in 2018 and have operated the site in its current condition for almost two full seasons. We have exciting plans to redevelop the site towards the end of the 2020 season with proposed works that will transform it ready for re-opening in the summer of 2021.
Owing to delays in securing planning approvals, the originally proposed development period of winter 2019 was postponed. This means that some of the more urgent works required at the site have had to be put on hold. As a result, It has been decided that the onsite restaurant cannot operate safely for another season.
We need to ensure that our members money is being invested wisely and to keep the restaurant operating would require significant investment to do so, which would be a wasted spend as soon as the development starts at the end of this year.
We do hope that this doesn't deter anyone's visit to the Bridport Bingham Grange Club site this year. There are lots of bars and restaurants in the nearby town of Bridport that offer a wonderful choice of menus.I will keep you updated on any further developments.

This is a good suggestion. I will speak to my colleagues to see if they can get me regular updates on redevelopments/site news so we can have an ongoing discussion.

have you seen the plans ????, my guess is the club will bulldoze the lot, ditch the restaurant, and as stated quote little of this 'originality' will remain when the club has dug it up and turned it into a clone of many others.unquote, and it will remain isolated with very few facilities. The location is quite stunning, crying out for some innovation, e.g. restaurant with panoramic views out across the countryside, maybe even a swimming pool, or dare i suggest a spa

The planning approvals have obviously not been finalised, as there are old buildings involved this could cause delays (Rowena has mentioned the reasons.) It's good to see sites with some character, Hawes has some older buildings remaining. I'm sure Dorset County Council will seek to ensure something remains of the old farm etc I'm don't know how old the actual farm site is, perhaps it was an ancient "grange." You'll have to take a paddle in the river and pretend it's a spa.

there would have to be as it is a trek to the road from the actual pitches, i seem to recall there was a path down thru some fields but we had some problems with cows showing some displeasure at the dog. Hope the site does well once completed, but there is a lot of competition in the area, Fresh water beach and Highlands end to name just 2, have stayed at both, and they are much more suited to beach type holidays plus they have a lot of amenities on site.

Because of the position of the site and little access to other means of transport and shops etc i think it will be much more used by caravans than motor caravans ,as noted on numerous sites we have visited that are a distance from either

good post, Rufs.
the club has precious few 'destination sites' where the site itself (and the immediate surround) is the attraction.
Hillhead is one we have used, great for a rest...pool restaurant etc, but able to get about if desired.
we're going back to Henley this summer with friends who havent been there.....but we choose Swiss Farm over Henley Four Oaks as there are far more (and better) facilities there...
Re: Bingham Grange, this may be a great opportunity missed, especially if locals wont be making the trip for meals...bit no doubt the Club see 'another clone' as the way forward, removing all the bits that made BG different.

There are plenty of sites which are 'destination sites'. Not what the club has generally offered. Do people join the club for 'destination sites' when there are plenty of commercial sites offering such?

Surely that’s a matter of opinion? What one person thinks is good is not necessarily what others want. Your view is not going to be representative of everyone's.

There are plenty of well used 'normal CC Ltd clones' which are obviously attractive to many for general location. As a destination site it seems poor but it was obviously well loved by some. Perhaps it had more to offer than I am aware of?

It was querky to say the least and that is why regular cc members are struggling with it, as far as i am aware it was a family run business that did very well with some pitches, but not all, surrounded with a nice hedge, personally preferred open pitches so we could enjoy the view, it was listed as a tranquil site, and it was surely that, but importantly we should not overlook the accessability to lots of different destinations all within max 1 hours drive, West Bay , Bridport, Lyme Regis, Weymouth , Poole, and of course lets not forget fosil hunting on the jurasic coast, fantastic area, love it.

Swiss farm is a holiday home park with some touring pitches,so not a comparison
Bingham grange as posted by others was an adults only site, that was quite busy with long term seasonal pitches, that were "allocated" to regulars as the cc staff have found out

Yes, we are looking to provide a food and beverage facility for guests on the site after the redevelopment. I will post more when I have more information.
