Edinburgh site - great wardens!
Having just spent new year on the Edinburgh site (not our first visit) i thought it appropriate to thank the winter wardens for their hard work, help, advice and friendly approach. We had an issue with dog cr8p on our pitch when we arrived (we too have a dog) which they quickly responded to even though it was late afternoon and dark.
Just a pity next NY is already booked up!

Initially we couldnt find it and only became apparent after it was walked into the caravan grrrr..... we thought they should know in case it was a wider known problem. I could also have mentioned the bag of dog poo left hanging on a sign in the dog walk which we DID move!!

Perhaps you should add a review where at least the Regional Manager would see you comments?

Surely the best thing about the Edinburgh wardens is that they welcome new arrivals from 9 am. onwards.

May be the staffing levels are higher and how many toilet blocks there? Lots of reasons I guess which preclude or allow. Numbers of arrivals and number of departures being right for the job, is it all off (departures) earlier too? That would make weekends a problem for many. I wouldn't cherish having to wait for a pitch to become available even if allowed to arrive at nine. Could block site and approach road up.

We were also at Edinburgh at New Year. There was a problem with numerous power cuts on the site, plus the ‘in’ barrier was faulty and the key pad for the gents toilet was intermittent; however the wardens (4 - I think) coped admirably throughout our stay.Toilets (two blocks) are cleaned in the afternoon and are spotless. We had noticed early arrivals, but it seemed to work well, no problems with blocking the access road, but could be different in summertime.
The site is clean and tidy and very pleasant. There is however a lot of movement on site as it is very popular with motor homes so not the most peaceful. Recommend the right hand side of the site, but don’t choose one which backs onto the road as there is traffic noise
I had already booked for the same period this year, but on leaving the wardens mentioned it had been booked up within 3 day of bookings becoming available. One of the attractions on this site is the availability of the local bus into the city centre. £1.70 each way per person- a bargain compared to parking. We also like the walk alongside the firth.

If so then there possibly is the answer to DD's question. Taking days off into account there will always be at least three couples on site. Very costly solution I would think in comparison with other sites of similar size and nature who will have three or possibly even only two couples working the site.

you dont need multiple couples to address this issue, merely someone in the office full time who can book visitors in....
amazingly, this is done on other sites
...or vice versa, get a toilet cleaner in and allow wardens to do 'wardening' which includes greeting and booking in visitors.

Pretty much adds up to same thing. All you are suggesting is multiple individuals rather than couples. You also suggest some of these individuals do specific jobs. Don't forget that every member of staff is entitled to days off and lunch breaks which means others will need to assume those specific roles and all the other jobs on site will need to be covered likewise. From my previous life staffing a business at appropriate levels is not as easy or simple as some may think.

So very true it was dificult enough covering hours needed when I was working and that was before the WTD came about, those who think staffing levels are an easy way of catering for their every need , should also remember that staff costs are the highest of any companies overheads,

I had to go to tribunals in my job to prove the point
Speaking to site staff it seems ,the "rose tinted glasses" ofsome members who think they could do the job , are soon frosted over ,as can be seen about June when new assistants realise and there tends to be a flurry of staff changes
One other point about staffing levels is family run sites are not as bound by the WTD as larger companies are with their employed staff, and site staff of both major UK clubs still mostly do more than their contracted hours to assist members "needs?",

Issue, there is more than one issue! It's obviously far more complex than realised. As for who staff are 'there for' I personally wouldn't question that at all! Now if you are questioning if a company or business philosophy is customer driven I say one thing from experience- you can't please all the customers all the time. Although they may try very hard to do so. Sometimes a customer's needs are totally at variance to others and quite often that of the majority. Life is not simple, I wish it was!
