Dogs ill near Brighton site
This information is, as yet, not officially confirmed. I’ve just seen a Facebook post by a member of Brighton Retired Greyhound Owners’ group (of which I’m a member/supporter, but not a greyhound owner) that several dogs have been taken ill in the Sheepcote Valley area. This is where the Brighton club site is located. If you’re staying on the site, or live nearby, and have dogs with you, please take care.
If I get any further updated information I’ll post on this thread.

The person that posted the info on the Brighton Retired Greyhound Owners’ site has told me that there has recently been incidents of dogs being poisoned in other Brighton parks.
The current situation is that, in the Sheepcote Valley area, one dog has died, and two others are under veterinary care.
I think it would pay to be very careful when walking dogs in Brighton. 😢

I’ve just seen on the Brighton Retired Greyhound Owners’ FB page another post regarding a dog that died yesterday following a walk at Sheepcote Valley/Whitehawk, and another two having treatment at the vet for vomiting and convulsions, most likely due to poisoning.
I really hope no more dogs are affected.

One of my Labradors nearly died after picking up a piece of Water Hemlock root, workmen had been clearing a water course and had just thrown it onto the spoil heap. Luckily she never ingested any of it, but the juice where she had carried it in her teeth was enough to nearly kill her. I didnt like the look of it although I never knew what it was at the time, looks like 'dead mens fingers' or small horseradish roots. Luckily I took it away from her.
Someone laying poison on purpose doesnt bear thinking about.....just evil. Be careful what your dogs pick up...be vigilant.

I’m very sorry to hear about that, but glad your dog made a good recovery. If the problem here was isolated to one area, you might think that something like the plant poisoning you mention is a possibility but, given the fact that Brighton residents have reported problems across the city, deliberate poisoning sounds more likely. Anyone who could do this sort of thing must be sick.
