Electric Beds

Hi

Stupid question time, we are about to buy a new Motorhome because our other one was trashed in the storms here in September.

My question concerns electric drop down beds which we have never had before and yes  I could ask the dealer but he doesn't speak much English and my Spanish doesn't go that far but do you always need hook up for the bed to work or will it work from the leisure battery as well.

In August we tour a lot with Grandchildren in Spain/France on aires without hook up and I realise we may have to leave them at home. Oh dear.

Phil

IMHO it would be a pretty poor set up if you needed mains to operate anything on a vehicle that is intended to go 'off grid' 🤔

Hi Phil, we have a Motor Roller T590, electric bed in roof, great feature and yes as Molly said works fine off battery, very happy with it.

Isn't there also an option to wind it up and down by a hand crank?

I seem to remember one we looked at had that as a safety feature in case of  12v failure.

Sorry Philnffc, guess the Gkids will be going along with you laughing

yes, they should all work from 12v and should have a backup procedure as mentioned by TG.

Phil, are you going for another A class? if so, i wouldnt bother adding as an option (unless it comes with the van) as these beds (as you know from your Hymer) are pretty easy to swing down and up.

i dont have any experience on how easy the 'over the lounge' drop down beds are if not electrically assisted as they arent cantilevered like the over the cab A class ones.

good luck with the new van whatever it may be.

    Hi

I honestly didn't know and thought this is what the forum is all about.

BB not an A class this time too expensive here but  buying a low profile Pilote P716 which comes with electric drop down bed over the lounge which works really well into three positions.

TG will look out for the things you mentioned on the day we pick it up because both seem a sensible idea but might not tell the wife that the Gkids will be ok to come next year.

Thank you all for the replies and now need to replace my profile picture as we sold that one for scrap this week a sad day indeed

It got washed away in he storms here in September and stood in 5ft of sewage for about two weeks so had to scrap it, so word of warning if in a years time you see any motorhome here in Spain for sale at a very good cheap price this may be the reason.

We had a Pilote 716 .. Bed was a disaster. Think ours was an early one and they changed the bed the following year. Make sure there is a manual way of moving the bed up and down. Ours didn't have that feature and would jam randomly and be an absolute pain to get back up again. Also be aware that all the cupboards go up and down as well and you have to move the cushions to get the bed down. If you leave the bed made up it reduces headroom. We only found this out when we got ours home. You may also find that you have to be parked pretty level for it to work properly. They do work off the habitation battery.

Thanks QFour will keep this in mind when we pick it up and yes we did notice that the cupboards move with the bed and the cushions got quashed the first time we lowered  it when they were showing us around.
