Next Year in the UK, new places or old?

We spend quite a bit of time going back to familiar places but we see new things. This year we returned to places in Scotland and looked at a couple of gardens, one had been extensively redeveloped (the lovely coastal Poolewe Garden) and then we went to see the Explorers garden (the famous Scottish plant hunters are recognised there) at Pitlochry which we'd not had time to visit previously.

So what's in the pipeline next year for you, new places or old, near to home or further away? Any new ideas on the horizon? smile

Not really sure at the moment Brue. We could be having quite a bit of work done in the house next year which might make it more difficult, at least in the early part of the year. We do tend to be drawn to the north and still want to visit Castle Howard and Whitby. Essex and Suffolk are counties we rarely visit and might be of interest if we can find sites near to places. We used a couple of CL's this year so perhaps we might explore a few more if they are in the right places. Tend not to venture down to the West Country very often but that is another possibility, I would like to visit Plymouth and Exeter. Perhaps back to the IOW which is always a favorite. Not sure about going abroad, we haven't been since 2016 but previously toured extensively so might concentrate on the UK from now on?

We don't tour overseas any more but try to visit at least one new place each season.  We also do 'pampering' in good hotels around the UK as well as the possibility of a foreign trip by air.

There are few locations that I have visited more than twice in the last 15 years. Those tend to be early on in a tour whilst moving on to an area. Other than our December break to Southport I can think of no area that I have visited more than 3 times in our travels.

We shall do our usual mix of old and new. Since we got the MH we have certainly seen a great deal more of UK, we plan a good few little tours around a particular place we might like to visit, and are constantly surprised by some of the less touristy bits of this country. We are currently on a new to us CL, but in an area we know well.

We do have favourites we return to though, the kind of places with memories etched into our hearts. Cornwall, Northumberland, North Norfolk are three that spring to mind.

We are off to Scotland in May. Most places we will have been before, although in the case of Pitlochry and Poolewe it will have been 30 or so years ago. Apart from whizzing past (Pitlochry) on the A9 of course.

We intend to get to some new UK locations next year, albeit not in the van! In fact I think it will give us the chance to get a bit further afield and for longer.

So Northern Ireland, which we've never visited is high on the list, especially the Titanic Museum and the Giants Causeway, but also for some walking in the hills.

Also Northumberland and into the borders with a bit of luck - haven't been up that way since our camping days when we used to go up to the C&CC site at Beadnell.

We'll also do some old favourites - the Peak District, the Lakes and we've already got a week booked in a cottage near Clitheroe to explore the Bowland area - we loved it when we stayed at Drake House Farm CL. And, of course, several trips to Cornwall. smile

Further afield, we're off to South Africa in February and the Greek Islands in September. (Oops! Sorry - that's "over there " isn't it? laughing

I’d like to go over to Northern Ireland, see the Game of Thrones stuff, move on down into Ireland. But I doubt I would emerge unscathed off the ferry.....😳🤢

The only plans for us at the moment are a return visit to Keswick, we just like being able to park up there and get around easily on foot or public transport.

Because our son and family are on the edge of Northumberland we'll no doubt be up there once more, just as we used to do when my sister and family lived there, it's all a bit deja vu but we can branch off in different directions!

Might go further afield, see more of southern Ireland maybe. smile

I’ve never been to Essex. Might do an East Anglian tour, take in the Roman bits!

In the new year we will be going back to old familiar CL in North Norfolk for a couple of visits.

Easter will be all new CL's

May will be all new sites over there

For the rest of the year, no idea yet

    One nighters AD!😁

Do you never fancy a short break in UK at all? I suppose you have done a lot of UK in past, but just wondered if anywhere ever tempts you?🤔

I do quite fancy New Forest area as well. Maybe combine it with Dorset, so a mix of old and new.

Generally structure my year with two longish trips, one in UK and one abroad plus other shorter trips within a closer radius of home. If going a long way( 300miles+), it doesn't seem worthwhile going for short periods. Lots of places I've not visited but may be interwoven with a previously visited area.

We will do our usual places in the Lake District, Dumfries and Galloway and Northumberland. However, we really enjoyed our trip to Llanberis this summer and would like to return to this area and walk in some of the less frequented areas. We did the Moel Eilio circular and spotted a few other routes across other mountains which looked interesting.

I also quite fancy the Brecon Beacons, but haven't researched this area yet for cl sites so have that to look forward too. Sometimes I think I enjoy planning the trips as much as actually going on them!😊

Similar to AD. April, May, June and the occasional September are a mix of old and new 'over there'..but we do enjoy visiting the lesser known areas of the UK...and are often surprised at what we find there...

So far we have Bridlington site booked in late March as an easy few days watching the arrival of sea birds (usually thousands) at RSPB Bempton Cliffs then drop down to Hull for the overnight ferry to Rotterdam. July will see us in Northumberland and Edinburgh then onto the old favourites Seacroft and Knaresborough (for RHS Harlow Carr) in August. A trip to Surrey and a new site for us at Alderstead Heath (for RHS Wisley show).

At the moment the OH keeps putting newspaper/journal cuttings of the recent developments of the dig at Pompeii..so almost certainly I will be sourcing a hotel in the Bay of Sorrento for September...after that who knows where we will be...

We will certainly be venturing into foreign territory next year by either ferry or tunnel.

Just where in England/Wales/Scotland we then visit has yet to be decided. I’ve a fancy for revisiting the Scottish Borders having shot through that area with barely a pause on our way north a few times in recent years.

sometime in the 'summer', Scotland calls, as does East coast...Lincoln, Yorks, Northumberland.. done on the way 'up'?...

have a particular spot to return to in June which could be tagged into the same long trip...

either side of that, three months in Spain and three months in Italy and Le Sud.

not much room for a lot else but some THS sites are always fun.

Have booked a ferry for March to end of April for Spain and France. Will just be grateful if it comes to fruition. We will then have about a 4 week period from mid May to Midsummers day to tour. thinking at the moment of a trip around Wales's coastline.

Autumn is undecided at the moment. Depends on health. If it's good then the Lakes or Peak District. If not then it's the Lakes or the Peak District (with longer breaks between the climbingsmile) Maybe....

Not made any plans yet for next year, we do try and visit a new area or one we haven't visited for a while each year.Have been doing some research into the Llyn Penisula in Wales as a possible destination.  It's an area we haven't visited before.

Of course we will probably have a few trips to The Peak District again, can't keep away.wink

So far nothing for January/February could change weather depending.

March as usual will be Lanzarote for 3 weeks.

Mid April to mid June 'over there' mostly new places.

Mid June to Mid September more than likely short trips, probably 5 days at a time, away in Scotland and North England, some new, some favourites.

Then mid September to mid December hoping to be back in Spain/Portugal

We love the old favourites, Cornwall, Yorkshire and Northumberland, but try to do at least one new area. This year it was further north in Scotland than we had been before and next year we might give Lancashire a go. I want to see the Anthony Gormley sculptures. Further afield we are hoping to get to Portugal in the spring as we had to postpone our planned November trip there.

We had a wonderful holiday there, staying in a cottage in Criccieth about 12 years ago. It was a great base for exploring the whole peninsula and at some point we'll definitely return in the caravan.😊

Re title, we'll be staying on an old favourite CL over the New Year!wink

Not yet made any decisions of where we'll be going in 2020 though, but it hopefully will be both a number of sites we used before and quite a lot that we've not yet visited in parts of the country we've not been to for a while. Will probably not be Scotland next year but Wales is on the radar, and we may yet get to Kent!!.

We have not made any firm plans yet, but will probably be using mainly new to us sites along with some regular ones.  Hoping to fit in 3 trips of around 4 weeks each in U.K., though my sister has been agitating lately for us to come to Norway for a few weeks next year. This  would have to be in the summer and by plane, so will depend on what work we need to do on the outside of our house, and whether we can get any reasonably priced flights.

For our U.K. trips we will have one up north, possibly at Easter, taking in a few days in Aberdeen to visit friends and relatives, and 2 down south, one to possibly to include IOW, Dorset and Somerset areas, and the other maybe  East Anglia.  At least one will include a stop in North Wales to visit friends.

A couple of you are saying maybe East Anglia so can I put in a plug for my home area? We don't have the fabulous scenery of the Lakes or the dramatic coast of Cornwall but we do have the city of Cambridge, the huge air museum at Duxford, NT owned Wimpole, Anglesey Abbey, Blickling Hall, Sutton Hoo, English Heritage owned Audley End Mansion, the so pretty Suffolk villages of Lavenham, Clare and Kersey, the Norfolk Broads. I could go on. It really is worth a tour round.
