Caravan Club Non Insurance Policy
Comments

I have just looked at my booklet and it clearly states one of the following. On my policy it only states that I need to have my alarm activated when the caravan is not hitched to the car. Can I ask if you have cmc cover so that you can check your policy.

Hi All
Just a Heads up with insurance
I got quotes for insurance on new Volvo b being an wrinkley I got quote from Saga on line with quotes from other companies as well
I phoned Saga to ask few questions about insurance during this conversation Sage rep said it would be insured with LV insurance who had their own authorised repairers which i queried saying as new car i would use a Volvo repairer
I was told no probs i could use who i wanted to it just that they did have their authorised repairers
Having sorted out that in the event of a claim i could use Volvo repairers i took out the insurance
Unfortunately ten days after taking delivery of car i took it out on a sunday morning (day after heavy rain) to find i had fuel pouring out I drove to the Volvo dealer complained bitterly that car should get fuel leaks after only ten days They like me thought a fuel pipe had come off They loaned me a car & said they would be working on it first thing in morning
About 11am i had call from garage saying that problem was rodent attack it had chewed thru fuel pipe & some wires
so trip to garage was needed to apologise profusely to sales staff
Insurance company contacted took them two weeks to send their engineer out who agreed the repairs I then asked about hire car while mine being repaired I was told no I could not have one as I had not used their repairers which was not mentioned when I queried using Volvo repairers before taking out insurance
So if you taking out insurance make sure you have all the details
I for one will not use Saga or LV again lesson learnt
Sorry for long post but wanted to give all details/facts

A lot of insurers have their own authorised repairs & as you have discovered will only give courtesy cars if you use them. By and large you can take your car to anyone you want for the insurance repair ..... but with the above limitations.

I also have LV car insurance, it states on the policy that if you don’t use their approved repairer you pay an extra £200 excess. Where is the problem just use their insurer and stress that you need genuine Volvo parts to maintain you warranty.

I have so far resisted commenting on this subject but I now will. I took out CMC Cover, last December when we bought our new Knaus. To be honest, I struggled to find a suitable insurer - either because of the value of the van, the fact that it was not UK manufactured - or that some wanted to impose what I considered to be unrealistic conditions. The CMC quotation was both reasonable and competitive and what swung it for me was peace of mind knowing their previous reputation for handling claims.
Just over a month ago, we had the unfortunate (and frightening) experience of someone firing an air rifle at us whilst on a site in Cumbria. A very nice site we have used before and not one where you would have expected that sort of thing to happen.
It resulted in an air-pellet sized dent in the side of the van which has had to be repaired at a cost of something in the region of £1000 to £1500. Ok - so not a massive claim on the insurance in the greater scheme of things, but a claim, nevertheless.
I have to say that the manner in which the claim has been handled by Devitt's has been nothing short of excellent. An assessor arrived at the house to inspect the van, the day after I submitted the claim. He immediately authorised repairs and negotiated with my chosen repairer. I have been informed of progress throughout the repair, by Devitt's, either by email or telephone - and when they say they will ring you back - they actually do!
When we hit a bit of a problem regarding the supply of a new decal and window seal by Knaus, the assessor stepped in and whilst I don't know the detail of what was said between him and the repairer, those spares have miraculously turned up.
I have yet to collect the van - hopefully that will happen next week, but so far, the response from Devitts - in terms of 'fighting my corner' has been outstanding and it is for this reason that I haven't hesitated to renew my CMC cover, this year.

Excellent post r&r, your quality of post is what would make me decide on whether or not to purchase the cover not guesswork and/or a personal agenda as seen in this thread. Thanks👍🏻

An extremely interesting and informative good post based on reality not guesswork as R2B says. Thanks for posting r&r.

and add me to that as well.

I’m starting to find your inferences, which are completely of your own imagining, rather impolite, Easy. I suggest you cease making such comments.

I would say not ET, there has much mis-information (if I had poor manners I might even say downright untruths) and fear factoring.
Not on my part. I simply gave the reasons why I would no longer be using CMC cover. Some also had concerns about unregulated insurance and some indicated whu that concerned them and affected their choices.

Having caused (I feel) a bit of controversy, I think I ought to explain my thinking in staying with CAMC Cover.
Over 25 years ago, we experienced an horrendous situation when, on our yacht, in the Med, we were hit by 100mph winds and a lightening strike - wiping out £20k's worth (how much now?) of electronics and electricals. We nearly lost our lives. We were insured by a company called Haven Knox-Johnston - owned by Chris, brother of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.
I was in shock because of the impact of the storm when I rang the insurers - and by coincidence, Chris K-J answered the phone. His words to me - and I will never forget them - were - "Go back to the boat - wait for us - we will sort it out - that's what insurance company's are for".
An assessor was flown out from France the following day and repairs authorised and everything followed from there - no hassle - no arguments - just everything taken care of. To put it in simple terms, I felt safe.
That is now the standard by which I judge any insurer.
By comparison, a vehicle claim, many years later - using a well known high street brand presented me with nothing but hassle and aggravation simply because I insisted on using the only authorised VW repairer in our area, rather than their nominated company.
Devitt's have demonstrated a similar attitude to Haven in that they have been supportive of the insured rather then protecting some other financial interest and it is this reputation for claims settlement that swayed me to insure with CAMC in the first place. It is also the reason why I insure our cars with another 'agricultural' insurer - regardless of whether or not they are the cheapest.

Cannot see why your post should be seen as controversial any more than mine R&R. As I said there were two trains of thought.

I don't think you did at all, you merely posted your positive experience with the club's cover, and actually a real one rather than based on pure speculation.

You didn’t cause any controversy R&R, for me you just reinforced my decision to remain with the club. If others feel differently then that’s there affair.
I did wobble at one time but that was probably due to reading too much into some other posts when in fact there was no evidence that the club would default

+ 1 to both of the above.

Just noticed that the Club are asking all those with Caravan Cover, who might have it located in an area that has been subject to a Govt Flood Warning, to contact them as it may affect cover. Right top and bottom of attached website page. Not clear if this is for new and existing cover?

As that page is for quotations I assume that it is for new rather than existing cover. I would have thought that the provision of the post code would have covered that.
When it says 'located in an area that has been subject to a Govt Flood Warning' does it mean 'located in an area that has ever been subject to a Govt Flood Warning' - I have no idea but many things around the cover does not seem easy to determine.

Personally, I make no assumptions. Certainly not in the case of protecting valuables.
It does lack clarity.
