Automatic satellite dishes need recalibrating
I found out today that the Astra 28 Satellite could not be found by my Teleco Dish. I tried moving pitch then when leaving London to return to Norfolk stopping twice to see if I could get a signal lock. No luck at all.
I then called my Teleco man in Newmarket who before I could explain he said...”you can’t get Astra 28.”
He informed me that the Satellite that provides most of our British channels had gone off line and my Teleco needs to be recalibrated.
Evidently this happened three weeks ago and it appears none of the Satellite dish providers for our Motorhomes have bothered to contact any of us.
I called the club and they suggested I join this forum.
Like most of us I hadn’t used my Motorhome for 6 weeks. Luckily I was on a one night trip However if I was just off to tour Scotland or Europe I would have had a big problem as I am an avid sports fan and use Astra 28 a lot.
If you have an automatic Satellite Dish go check it out immediately. If it doesn’t work contact the manufacturer or your installer.
It took just 5 minutes to reprogram. Big thanks to Mike at Van Systems Newmarket for fixing this for me.
Hope this helps a few of you.

"He informed me that the Satellite that provides most of our British channels had gone off line and my Teleco needs to be recalibrated."
I am intrigued if the satellite(s) providing our UK channels has gone off line, how simply "recalibrating" a dish set up gets them back?
There must have been something different changing to what was stated by that reseller.

Teleco told me it was all makes affected but my dealer said it was just Teleco. What make is your dish.

I thought exactly the same. Astra 28 is still there and functioning. It’s obviously something else affecting possibly just Teleco. Wonder if other makes have a similar issue.

I had the same happen to my Mecatronic dish over a year ago. It just needed a software upgrade which usually requires a laptop and a USB cable to connect the two if you want to do it yourself. I think most automatic dishes seem to suffer from this problem from time to time.

Thanks, that explains it to a certain degree, my dish is a TracVision. It is usually only changes to transponder frequencies which effect tracking but I guess it is down to how different manufacturers find and lock onto the satellites. I have not had to adjust mine since the major reconfiguration and the introduction of 2G.

P, Teleco (exclusively) uses a 'pairing code' from each satellite to lock on to the correct one...this particular method was chosen over others as these codes 'would never change'..thanks Astra
the software update addresses this issue but care needs to be taken as their are thee basic updates to choose from..
normal flat sat models, auto skew models and internet compatible models.
many forums now with info on this issue.

Is that the same as the NID (Network ID) which for Astra 28.2 is 002. My dish also uses this but only after it has found a satellite signal to check it has locked onto the correct satellites. This NID has never changed to my knowledge.

To be fair my installer (Outoor bits of Exmouth) sent me an email to advise me that the Teleco Satell I had fitted by them 3 plus years ago needed a software update> I downloaded the update to my laptop and at the second attempt uploaded to my teleco system. I contacted Dave at Outdoor Bits and I believe he has now posted a video online to show how to update the dish for those of us who may be reluctant to have a go at such tech work. He also tol me that Teleco had informed him of the update so maybe it's down to the quality of the supplying agent/fitter as to whether you get notified.

I spotted this thread last week and tried my Oyster Caro to see if it had a problem - locked on first time so I assume it is a Teleco issue.

My Oyster Satellite set up had the same problems and whereas you could previously download the upgrade via the satellite dish you couldn't do that anymore. So, I had to send my receiver to Oyster UK who had the other bit of software to interface between Astra 2 and Oyster recover. It took about 5 days and once it back in works OK.

Hi can anyone help me with this please? I’ve downloaded the update software onto my laptop but can’t find the sat box in our motorhome to connect my laptop to, all we’ve got is what you see on the attached photo.

Sorry can't see a photograph so can't see what you mean. It's probably in one of the upper cupboards or perhaps the wardrobe. One clue might be is somewhere near where the cable from the dish enters the van through the roof. Sometimes installers have to run a cable over the roof of the motorhome from the dish to the point where the controller is situated inside the motorhome. I doubt the controller will be very big, perhaps about the size and shape of a internet router? You will probably need a USB to USB cable to connect. Good hunting!
