Swift caravan hob glass sliding out.
Has anyone else had issues with the hob glass cover falling out onto the floor whilst towing the caravan , I have a new 2019 swift challenger.

It's a brand new van so I'd get the dealer to fix it under warranty.

Highbridge caravans due to phone me in the morning I just wanted some idea if this was unusual.

This happened to our Thetford Cooker in our new Knaus, just after we got it. Since we always have rubber covers over the glass tops above the sink and the cooker - to stop scratching (the sort you can use as a shower mat) - it stopped it flying off.
Literally a two minute job to re-tighten the two grub screws that hold it in place and haven't had a problem since. (Be careful not to over-tighten, otherwise there is a danger of cracking the glass)

Then along come three.

Mine fell out on a new van last trip, its a Coachman with thetford cooker. Its due for first service so will get it done under warranty. Apparently quite common, just another of those really crap engineering ideas foisted on the caravan community.
My last one wouldnt stay in the mountings in the last van, stuck some 3M 1mm thick foam underneath the pad that grips the lid and it stayed put. In hindsight....

We have a 2012 Swift, and the glass almost came out on a trip last year, having re-tightened the screws, it has not happened since. I was a bit nervous at the time in case I overtightened.

R & R ,
If you find loose little grub screws in such a position I recommend the application of something that's available to most 'vanners -- lacking a small bottle of 'LOCTITE' snaffle an almost empty bottle of nail varnish . Apply a tiny drop onto the screw thread and gently retighten. Should they ever slacken again --just blame the provider of the 'varnish .

Thanks ABM - will bear that in mind - but 'touch wood', we haven't had a problem since. I also checked the ones on the glass lid over the sink.

Just a further note, rather than wait until service I thought I might just get one on ebay for a few quid.
One vendor has sold 357 of them for the Caprice mk3. Given that this is not a service item then I would suggest there is an issue with the design of the clamp bracket that holds these in place.
Check your screws in the hob lid are tight!

I’ve used some superglue on the threads and towed the van 200 miles this weekend and the hob cover has stayed in place

Mine actually flew out twice. After the second time I tightened up the screws as much as I dare. Hasn’t happened since, although not used the van much since. Incidentally, just received a call telling me that the new cupboard has arrived, to replace the damaged one. Just have to set a date to take the van to them.
