agreed, so much hot air, it is no different to household insurance if you live in areas that may be affected by flooding, and there have been many instances this week in the news where householders on checking their insurance found to their horror that they had no cover as a clause had been inserted into their policy document that they had not read or obviously not been informed about.

at least the club have made this statement

The Club will keep these measures under constant review and when the extreme weather conditions abate remove the restrictions."

not sure your household insurer would be so generous, even if you had a 10 year drought in your area after flooding just the once.

Why speculate - this time it is clear. But if you wish to speculate that is up to you

If anyone in an affected area is about to renew they are going to be in a very difficult situation trying to get alternative cover

Maybe David but certainly they may look elsewhere. I would not renew with no guidance as to how long this 'state of emergency' decision might pertain as, even though caravan is high and dry in storage I do tour. I am somewhat surprised that the club has aimed their decision at renewals and not just at new business

Those of us that read these posts do so to keep informed of new events etc that may be taking place, not to continually read you are leaving, and your previous bad insurance experiences used as examples as to why, but i hope you are very happy with your new provider, bye bye

As David said don't read if you don't wish to. If you have nothing to contribute that's fine as there are other threads that you may wish to read.

I suppose that means that you are in agreement with David.

Hopefully, on re-reading it may not affect renewals? Dunno.

What I would expect though is that with such a restriction is that most folk would look elsewhere for a policy. CMC might just as well suspended the sales of new policies until such time as they are prepared to offer proper cover to touring caravans

I am trying to find the link on this website to the statement about flooding? Not having any luck?

Seems very strange. Lots of areas of UK flood, some on a very frequent basis.

That Caravan Storage place near us that flooded badly is CASSOA Gold Standard. Lots of cameras and locks, but precious little flooding protection!

Trouble is TTDA that if I were on a site like Chatsworth I would have been totally unaware that it might flood. I don't watch TV and would be unlikely to have been aware.

Thanks ET. That is one hell of a statement. Any area that has been subject to a Flood warning? I can think of several locations around UK that flood on a regular basis, far more than the areas mentioned. Looks like the Club’s Discretionary Panel is alive and kicking and being used in just as discriminatory way as many other Insurance Policy providers.

The more honest thing to do, at present, would be to tell any new applicant that no new policies were being given until the flooding situation passed. Only my personal opinion

Glance at a map would give some indication of surrounds ET, however not the severity, frequency or overall likelihood.

Club can add Stratford to its list of temporary bans.........flooding currently imminent.

If you look at other insurers they warn against using sites/storage that have flooding risks. I don't know how people would stand if they ignored this advice? I presume they would have to pay higher premiums if available. I would imagine a lot of actuarial work is going on to assess these risks and premiums in the present climate.

We live in SY. Trust me, if where we store our Caravan and MH ever floods, Noah and his Ark will be seen again. Most of County is hills, very big ones. Aside from Doncaster, which is flat, it’s only the river valleys that are affected. As with Severn Valley area.

I haven’t looked, but is MH Insurance affected as well in these areas?

I can see Storm warnings being next exclusion. Puff of wind expected, cover invalid. So much for touring.......

do you honestly think that the club is the only insurance provider that is not carrying out a damage limitation exercise at present.

I have no idea if other caravan insurers are offering worthless cover as well. Do you know of some perhaps? Maybe that is speculation on your part.

House insurance is a tad different as your home tends to not travel much into areas that one does not know.

But it as been mentioned on here before, there will be a certain breed who will have booked a trip and will go whatever the possible consequencies.

Not all have your depth and breadth of knowledge Rufs nor do all of us check flooding forecasts etc when going to a site. Obviously not a problem for yourself. I have only used Chatsworth once and, as I posted earlier, I would have had no idea that it was likely to flood.

The "flooding disclaimer" has been included in policy documents for many areas for years , which are expanding  , and likely to affect many more people than at present as our now unpredictable weather patterns will increase according to the "ex sperts"surprised

It took several years to sort out the flood damage in Somerset, some work is still ongoing and it affected all types of insurance.

I know Yorkshire very well, my sister lives outside York, we once almost stayed at a Flower of May site in that area, on a very wet arrival i noticed a very large fishing lake in the middle of the site, checked the weather forcast and asked a few questions at reception and decided site not for me, the site was flooded next day, apparently not all pitches but was not prepared to take the chance.

Apparently not TTDA of the club products in this field it seems to be only their unregulated ones as far as one can tell from their website. It is quite likely that the insurers that they pass business to may decline some insurance but probably based on postcode. However my view is as speculative as Rufs may be in this instance.

EasyT, once again you say the club are offering worthless cover even though the club is regulated by the FCA. LINK

It’s called the Vale of York, whole area floods every year. If the floods don’t get you, the washed away bridges up in Dales and Moors will! 😁

Here is current list of flood warnings just from today. There are a good few parts of England now covered by Flood Warnings

I thought that was mainly the case with house insurance rather than caravans on tour or is that wrong? Truly no idea as it is not something that I have come across
