Caravan curtains
Hi,.
Bought a caravan that needed some work now done and working good dry and sound.
The one thing that I can't do and don't even want to attempt is making curtains.
There was only horrible net things on it which looked like they were thrown together by a brickies labourer.
Anybody know where you can buy curtains made or where you could get them made.
Thanks

Any decent seamstress will be able to make curtains far cheaper than buying purpose made ones.

38 years ago I made curtains for our caravan, it took me a morning to sew and hang. The hanging was the longest but I was used to using a sewing machine. Today with arthritic hands I would go either to a market stall holder or to a local shop doing alterations with the drop required and the width allowing doe some gather

Decide how you are going to hang them, so you can let your maker use appropriate curtain tape. Suggest a good material that is heavy enough to keep you warmer, unless your van has blinds fitted already. If blinds are fitted, will you actually use the curtains or just for show? This could affect how much material to use. A blind (roller?) would be safer and better in kitchen area if it has a window.

You will probably be best onde you find somebody to do the work to google ' fabric shop + your postcode' so that you can find suitable fabric. If you give us your nearest town somebody might have suggestions both for fabric suppliers and somebody to do the work.

Just recalled it’s a Coachman you have bought BM, so probably has the interior blinds. Some markets have very decent material stalls and often great for lining materials. I would find someone to make them for you first (most towns have someone who can do clothing alterations etc.... curtains will be a doddle for them), take your window measurements, then they will advise on how much material you might need. Places like Dunelm do end of roll offers, as well as reasonably priced materials, so there's a huge choice to match your current interior if you want to.
We have renovated two old vans, done everything ourselves except recovering cushions. Don’t be lured in by Caravan specialist firms, they charge the Earth for quite simple stuff sometimes.

Some shops might advise 2 or 2.5 times the curtain width so that you get nice deep folds. Great in a house but, in my opinion, you don't want such deep folds in a caravan.
I won't advise but I personally would be looking more at 1.5 to 1.75 maximum times the width.

If you’re on Facebook it might be an idea to ask the question in any local ‘groups’ you’re in.
